Angry High school shooting in Washington state kills 1, injures 3

Quote:
A shooter opened fire at a high school in a tiny town in Washington state Wednesday, killing one student, injuring three others and sending worried parents to the school in a frenzied rush, authorities said.

Brian Schaeffer of the Spokane Fire Department told reporters that one child died at Freeman High School in Rockford, south of Spokane, while three injured victims were taken to a hospital and expected to survive.

"The shooter has been apprehended and is taken into custody," he said.

Schaeffer, who didn't release any information about a possible motive or the age of the suspect, said the shooting was especially hard for first responders, many of whom have children at the school.

A two-lane road into the community of about 500 people near the Idaho border was clogged with vehicles. Some people abandoned their cars on the street to make it to their children.

Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children's Hospital received three pediatric patients, spokeswoman Nicole Stewart said. They were in stable condition and surrounded by family, she said.

Authorities didn't immediately release the ages of the victims.

I put part of the article in bold, because I know what those parents were going through, since there was a shooting at the school my son attended years ago, and one student was killed.

I was at work when it happened, and I knew nothing about it until a friend called. She asked if I had spoken to my son that day. I thought that was a weird question and said no. She hesitated, then said she had just heard on the news that there was a shooting at Lincoln County High School, where my son was! I immediately called my parents, who then lived next door. They told me that my son had called them to let them know he was okay.

When my son came home, I learned that the shooting had taken place outside the school building, and my son was outside and had witnessed it! I asked him if he wanted to talk to a professional, because that would be traumatic, and he said he was fine. However, the next few times we drove by the school, he pointed out exactly where it had happened, and I KNEW it got to him; he just wouldn't admit it. Much later on he admitted that he didn't know if he would be shot next.

Here is a synopsis of what my son witnessed::

Quote:
A high school senior shot and killed another student, apparently because the two had argued about a girl, police said. The shooting occurred about 2 p.m. in a parking lot at Lincoln County High School in Fayetteville. Jacob Davis, 18, confronted Robert "Nick" Creson, 18, and fired three times, police said. Creson died about 15 minutes after being brought to Lincoln Regional Hospital, spokesman John Fitzsimmons said. Davis was charged with first-degree murder and reckless endangerment.

So I can understand how frantic the parents were since I've been there.

Default High School shooting kills 1, injures 3

Another school shooting.

In a small town of 500 this young person decided to bring guns to use in school.

The shooter, another student was normal but obsessed with past school shootings.
Knowing this why wasn't this student in some sort of mental treatment? What processed this young person to ruin his and others lives..

May the Lord, ease the families pain and that of his friends.

UPDATE: ROCKFORD, Wash. (AP) Authorities say a student who shot four people at a high school in Washington state killed a fellow student who attempted to stop him.

Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich said Wednesday the shooter came to Freeman High School in Rockford armed with two weapons, and one jammed when he tried to fire it.

The sheriff says a student approached the shooter and attempted to block him before he was shot and killed.

Knezovich says the gunman then shot three additional students before a school staff member stopped him.

I posted this news earlier, and no one responded, and it disappeared. I also wrote about my son's experience witnessing a shooting at his school in that post. Perhaps someone can merge the thread so people can see what I wrote...?

Lumara, which topic did you post it in, if you recall. As above you said it disappeared.

I would like to read it as it has your telling of your sons experience.. I can't understand why some one so young would toss their live away.

Unless one looks at it as faith and evil.

I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised to learn that the attacker actually was on some sort of "mental health" drug for ADHD or depression or something else.

I sincerely hope your son is doing well and has been able to adjust after this event. It is always depressing to hear of young children being exposed to traumatic experiences.

I find it depressing that school aged kids are resorting to lethal force these days as a means to act out either against authority or in disagreements with their peers. I honestly believe that our youth are becoming desensitized to violence and death due to the overwhelming stimulants they get from movies, video games and even TV shows.

I also think that the whole concept of not allowing kids, specifically young boys, to take it outside and "duke it out" like we did when we were kids, allows these kids to have their frustrations build up to the point where they resort to lethal weapons. I'm not saying we should let bullies pick on smaller kids, but when I was in school, if you had a problem with another guy and could not work it out, both of you met up after school somewhere and had it out. Afterwards, you dropped it. Hell, me and a couple of my best friends got into it and within a few days, were still best friends.

I'm not proposing we go back to that, but there has to be an aspect to that which is preventing young men to experience the pain from such experiences. Maybe if they did, they would be a little more sensitive to the pain they would inflict through lethal force.
