nope - I disagree

as long as the people in charge (read: Bush&Co) say that being against the war is being against the troops, there is no reason to think that the OPPOSITE isn't true as well.

lose the flags - or shut up about anti-war people being unpatriotic and hating the troops

can't have it both ways

Calvin Muse is an idiot.

I hate this war too and have never supported it since day one. Anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of nonverbal communication could tell that Geo and Condi were (I'll be kind here) exaggerating the threat to drum up support. This war is a lie and a sham.

Having said that I will also say this:

I fly an American flag with a yellow ribbon tied around the pole during the warmer months and have done so for years even before the war started (the flag--the ribbon came because I know people there) NOT in support of my government or the war. I debated on this and chose to do so for the following reasons:

I love my country. Right now I hate my government (as I do from time to time--although this time is absolutely the WORST ever) but I will never hate my country or my countrymen.

I support the troops and that does NOT imply support for the war. These kids sign up to protect their country and hopefully have a better future for themselves. They don't get to pick and choose what wars we get into. That crap is for the coke-head in the White House. I support them, their safety and their safe return. I lost a young co-worker in this damn war, and one of my best friends has two sons who are Marines that keep rotating in and out of Iraq. One was hit by an IED and miraculously suffered only a concussion.

How dare somebody tell me that my flag and yellow ribbon means I support anything other than my country and her service personnel?

Calvin Muse can suck it.

P.S. I guess you can call me "Ann"--lol

I don't believe he's saying that YOU can't fly your flag or tie a yellow ribbon around YOUR old oak tree...only that they shouldn't be on public property.

Tris--I agree. This is dealing with public property. What I didn't do very well was specify that what I posted is exactly why Muse (and the Shrub) is wrong in assuming a yellow ribbon implies support for the war.

I have a big problem with public property being used to benefit religions and political stances or to discriminate. My point is that he is wrong in assuming yellow ribbons imply support for the war. They are in support of the troops.

Sorry--but I'm just not going to let the Shrub dictate that my ribbon or lack thereof means I either support the war or am a traitor. That is the trap we're kind of falling into here, regardless of where you stand on this particular issue. The trap is letting the Shrub tell us what we think with respect to our ribbons (among other things).

I am saying he is far too simplistic to know what I think.

I don't have a problem with the ribbons being or not being displayed on public property. I just have a problem with someone else telling me what I think.

I think you have a valid point. But I am not going to let Bushco tell me what to think.

To me -- and I believe to most Americans -- supporting the troops does not mean supporting the war. And I don't believe that anything Bushco says or does will change that.

Now, when looking back--I DO kind of agree with this part. It's kind of a poetic justice from those of us who have put up with being called "traitors" for years.

The sad thing is that the support for the troops is not visible there anymore, and if the Shrubco hadn't used their despicable smear tactics on libs noboby would probably have even thought this lawsuit up.

Anyone who raises this kind of fuss over a yellow ribbon to support the troops can be branded an political opportunist of the sleaziest nature. The issue should be more than "what I think the ribbon means" politically and should be brought back down to the spirit of "we want our troops to return safely and this is how we will express it".

Much like cnredd said, this guy is trying to be your thought police.
