ABC News: Obama Leaving Campaign Trail to Visit Grandmother

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is canceling nearly all his campaign events Thursday and Friday to visit his suddenly gravely ill 85-year-old grandmother in Hawaii, a spokesman said.

Robert Gibbs told reporters aboard Obama's plane that Madelyn Payne Dunham, who helped raise Obama, was released from the hospital late last week. But he said her health had deteriorated "to the point where her situation is very serious." MORE OF THIS STORY

He wants to go back and see how the "typical white person" is doing...

Best wishes to him regarding his grandmother's health.

I really hope he doesn't take the press with him.

I'm sorry but since when did telling the truth anger anyone? I've jumped more than once at the sight of a young black or Hispanic male running at me. I have no racial anymosity, but I can't help my basic instincts. I have been taught to "fear the black man"; and anyone who says different is just a hypocrite, .

I've been taught to fear anyone running at me dressed in a certain way, in a particular place.

I'm not sure I would sit and wonder if that white tatoo covered skin head just wanted to borrow a cup of sugar. A well dressed black man with a look of fear on his face would probably start me running with him, not from him.

Right here's a good place to start...

In a March 7, 2008, article in the Torrance, California newspaper, The Daily Breeze, Geraldine Ferraro said regarding Clinton's nomination rival that "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept". Ferraro had made a similar comment in 1984 about Jesse Jackson. Ferraro justified her statements by referring to her own run for vice president saying that she "was talking about historic candidacies and what I started off by saying (was that) if you go back to 1984 and look at my historic candidacy, which I had just talked about all these things, in 1984 if my name was Gerard Ferraro instead of Geraldine Ferraro, I would have never been chosen as a vice-presidential candidate. It had nothing to do with my qualification."

Her comments drew criticism and charges of racism from many supporters of Barack Obama.

Rrrriiiggghhhtttt......
There's a difference between "truth" and somebody's opinion that is just so abrasive, based on unfounded opinion, that it reaches the level of absurd.

Considering she said something similar about Jesse Jackson in 1984, I am curious how many black people she wouldn't say that about...

Back on the subject, my best wishes to him and his grandmother.
While some hope that he "won't take the press", I also hope that others will not use these trying times to their political advantage...

I don't think I've ever seen a white tattoo covered skin head, . How many "well dressed" black minority teens have you seen? White kids can be just as bad news, but my basic instinct is not to fear them. Where I grew up, even the "well dressed" should be feared, they use it as a cover (South America, not the US). All in all, Obama just told it like it is, IMO,

It has been reported in the news recently how Obama's grandmother's physical condition is deteriorating fast. Has Obama built himself enough of an unassailable lead over McCain to be able to take time out of the election trail to see his grandmother in Hawaii, or could McCain make up lost ground while he is away? What if Obama's grandmother's physical condition deteriorates further, or God forbid, dies? After all, she is 86 years old.
