Default Trump says US should let China keep the drone

Damn you guys voted in such an idiot.

WASHINGTON (AP) President-elect Donald Trump said Saturday on Twitter the United States should let China keep the U.S. Navy's unmanned underwater glider that it seized in the South China Sea.

"We should tell China that we don't want the drone they stole back.- let them keep it!" Trump tweeted a few hours after the U.S. military announced it had reached an understanding with China for the return of the underwater glider.

According to the Pentagon, the drone was seized Thursday while collecting unclassified scientific data in the South China Sea, which China claims virtually in its entirety. The U.S. demanded the drone back, calling it an "unlawful seizure" in international waters.

China said its military seized the underwater glider to ensure the safe navigation of passing ships but would give it back.

It was not immediately known what effect, if any, the president-elect's tweet would have on the agreement with the Chinese.

The evening tweet was the second time the president-elect injected himself into the controversy through Twitter on Saturday.

Misspelling "unprecedented," he tweeted Saturday morning: "China steals United States Navy research drone in international waters - rips it out of water and takes it to China in unpresidented act." He later reissued the tweet, correcting the spelling.

Relations already were tense between the U.S. and China following Trump's decision to talk by phone with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen on Dec. 2. He later said he did not feel "bound by a one-China policy" regarding the status of Taiwan, unless the U.S. could gain trade or other benefits from China.

China considers the self-governing island its own territory to be recovered by force if it deems necessary.

Trump's not President. Obama is. I'm sure Obama is on top of this and will deal with it. As soon as he gets back from another taxpayer funded vacation.
He's already written a vigorous protest note. Or something.

This was Beijing's way of telling the US government to not deploy this this type of vessel (drone) in the South China Sea which Beijing insists belongs exclusively to China.

The Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) at The Hague invalidated Beijing's South China Sea exclusivity claim (nine-dash line claim) on 12 July 2016.

The thread is about what Trump said. Nice try at deflection though

Pointing out Trump's current status as President Elect IS the topic. This is Obama's problem.

That said, Trump is probably correct here. We can negotiate all day and night , give up something, and receive for it a pile of broken hardware. I say let that be on Obama's head.

He's not going to be a tough Prez in the last two months of his Presidency. He will deal with it just like all the other "incursions" into our nation's sovereignty.....; With strong, powerful, and impotent rhetoric

The thread isn't about the drone. It is about Trump's comments on the drone. Try to pay attention to the point of the thread will you? I don't know how you became a manager of anything when you can't seem to stay on message.

When don't you? You always spin everything for Trump's sake.

Let's see if we can spin to Obama?

Exactly...

This is from the OP...Very crucial...

Only a fool would think the US said "Can we have it back, please?" and the Chinese said "OK"...

They SURELY had demands, and reading "the U.S. military announced it had reached an understanding with China", obviously, means those demands were met...

The Chinese using our own equipment as leverage is embarrassing...Considering it wasn't classified technology and the mission was also unclassified, I'd have to agree...No negotiations should have taken place...

As a side note, having an unmanned, unprotected US underwater drone in an area a hostile country considers its sovereign waters is pretty stupid to begin with...

Allowing a country to simply decide they own international waters is okay with republicans because they want to support Trumps comments. Whatever Trump says can be supported. All you have to be is submissive. China wants the ocean? Give it to them. Russia wants to spy on us ? Invite them to do so. Russia wants to effect our elections? Well we did it too so it's okay. Whatever Trump says can be supported by the right today. Want to trash a American POW? Sure, why not. It means nothing to anyone on the right. Nothing means anything except that Trump is POTUS. You people truly amaze me. Zero principles at all. You can't bring yourselves to complain about anything Trump says or does. The hook is set so deep it's like watching NAZI Germany II. Let's get that list of Muslims going quickly so when we get the camps ready we will have a list to go by.

Which isn't even close to what I said...

One would think someone with a vast history of forum discussion would read what other members say instead of simply creating things out of thin air...
