Lunches for over 200 million hungry schoolchildren in the developing world will be delivered, thanks to a commitment of $80 million by leading restaurant company YUM! Brands.

The pledge to the UN World Food Program was made during the annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) in New York, which coincides with the UN high-level event on the Millennium Development Goals– the eight targets for slashing poverty, hunger, illiteracy and other socio-economic ills by 2015.

I'll admit I was looking for something bright and good with all the dark shaddows we are now facing.
I thought this story fit the bill. And it really is news, not a fairy tale.

Nice to know even in the world of big conglomerates, there is still a little humanity out there.

I think that you're too pessimistic about corps. Most of them are pretty big givers to charity and smaller businesses are even more so. I used to help run a BMX track in my community and we got our start-up money from one of those big conglomerates (Jeld-Wen). One letter to corporate along with some pics of some the kids who be benefitting and voila', we had enough money for dirt, equipment, building materials, a starting gate and a sound system. I do think that there's a whole lot more they could be doing, but don't think that they are all cold, heartless people running things. Some of the biggest chartiable foundations in the world are bankrolled by mega-corps.

I know if you write to a company that makes a product that a cancer victim or other illnesses could use to make their life more comfy, they will send you cases of stuff. And anytime there is a busted case or even an overage in a delivery of food stuffs, my husband can donate it to the charity of his choice (w/ a recpt., of course).
Thanks for the comments.
