It was Obama's bridge. He VOTED FOR it. He then voted NOT to reassign the money to New Orleans when the bridge was canceled.....As a states governor you are SUPPOSED to seek funds from the federal government....As a senator you are SUPPOSED to prevent "waste".....So who was doing THEIR job?
Don't you just love it when Obama supporters accuse Palin on this?...

"How dare you originally wanted to accept a project the Lord of Chicago voted for you to have!...How DARE you!!!"...

She hired lobbyists to get the bridge project. She and the former leaders were in concert on the idea as a good thing for Alaska. Then she turned around and blamed them for it. One guy was corrupt. The other was not-he was dong the same thing she was doing and got caught in her political ladder climbing.
I am not blaming her for the bridge request or for changing her mind. I just think she is awfully stupid to use that when it is so easy to trace what actually happened.
As for Obama and Biden squashing the bill that would divert the money to New Orleans, I seriously doubt they said "Hey lets not give any money to New Orleans", that would have been political suicide. What else was in the bill they didn't want to pass? That's what you have to ask yourself.

She did not hire lobbyists for this, she hesitantly supported it PRIOR to becoming Gov., but when she became Gov. and got more info regarding it, she pulled her support. Get your facts straight.

Sorry she hired the lobbyists while mayor not governor.
But here's how the bridge went down. You will note only after the bad publicity did she change her stance. Not only is she not a worker for change, she is a coward.

Quote:
On September 20, 2006, Sarah Palin visited Ketchikan on her gubernatorial campaign and said the bridge was essential for the town's prosperity.

In September 2006, during her campaign for Governor, Sarah Palin visited Ketchikan to express her support for the Gravina Island Bridge project. At a public forum, Palin held up a pro-bridge t-shirt designed by a Ketchikan artist, Mary Ida Henrikson. The legend on the shirt was "Nowhere Alaska 99901", referencing the buzzword of "Bridge to Nowhere" and the primary zip code of Ketchikan. In her public comments, referring to her own residence in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, she said: "OK, you’ve got Valley trash standing here in the middle of nowhere. I think we’re going to make a good team as we progress that bridge project" in response to an insult expressed by the state Senate president, Ben Stevens.[15]

In October 2006, when asked, "Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?", she answered: "Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now - while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist."[16] Later that month, at a Chamber of Commerce meeting in Wasilla, Alaska, Democratic candidate Tony Knowles criticized Palin for supporting the Knik Arm Bridge, the Gravina Island Bridge, and a road north out of Juneau instead of rebuilding the Parks Highway. The Ketchikan Daily News noted that, of the gubernatorial candidates, "Only Palin is consistent in support all of the projects..."[17]

During her inaugural address on December 4, 2006, Governor Palin pledged responsible spending. [18] On January 17, 2007, she sent a revised budget to the President of the Alaska Senate that would restrict capital spending, in order to live within their means, and rescinded the $185M state share of the bridge funding.[19]

In August 2007, Alaska's Department of Transportation stated that it was "leaning" toward alternative ferry options, citing bridge costs, despite having already received the funds from the federal government.[20]

The project was canceled in 2007 by prior supporter [21][22][23][24] Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, who changed her view after national public opinion turned against the bridge for being wasteful spending

Your reading in the motivation you want to see in Gov. Palin. There's nothing that indicates that she was motivated by public opinion. It is equally possible that she got better information regarding the project than she had been provided and realized that it wasn't in everyone's best interests to continue supporting it. Gov. Palin has been someone who has taken on some of the most powerful interests in Alaska because it was the right thing to do and in the best interest of the people. If she was merely a opinion driven hack, as you try so desperately to portray her, she would have never taken on these people and instead would have used their influence to further her career and manipulate public opinion in her favor (kind of like a certain candidate for President who keeps getting criticized for inexperience does).
