An indictment has been filed in Jessica Chambers' murder. The accused is Quinton Tellis, 27, formerly of her hometown of Courtland. According to the prosecutor, John Champion, it was not gang related but didn't speculate on motive. Tellis has obviously been a suspect from the beginning and Jessica did know him. He is currently in jail in Louisiana for another crime and possible murder of a Chinese exchange student. He was caught on camera using her ATM card. It may take some time for him to be returned to Miss. to face these charges. The cell phone records placed him with Jessica.

A strong element of the defense is that Jessica is reported to have said the person responsible was named Eric not Quinton. So even if cell phone data, text messages, and all other evidence lines up, he may be acquitted.

Yes, interesting case from a Mississippi courtroom. Today the jury went on a field trip to the significant locations and Tellis went along according to an on scene reporter. The distances between the defendant's home, his sister's home, the burning site, and the location of where the keys were found are short.

Interesting update as court just resumed. The judge just fined a reporter for violation of his rules by taking a picture of the jury. The judge handled things very quickly and firmly. He made the reporter come forward, fined him $100 and sentenced him to 30 days in jail, which he suspended. Another violation and he goes to jail.

Jessica's severe condition was even rare for a the Burn Unit. Her injuries were "incompatible with life" so they established lines and made her comfortable.
The damage to her oral cavity and airway were from fire and products of combustion. The pathologist and the Burn Center Chief also testified.

On day 4, the prosecution presented 5 hrs of recorded interviews of Quinton Tellis in which his story changes from not being with Jessica the evening of her murder to admitting he was. His story evolved as he was shown cell phone data, text, and video evidence that contradicted his prior explanations. He was boxed in by his own statements.
It's Saturday but trial continues today.

The State rested its' case and the defense called no witnesses including Tellis. Closing arguments were made today and the case was handed to the jury. The State's case against Quinton Tellis is mostly circumstantial and proximal. The defense says that the State proved nothing and it's all conjecture. The timeline is supported by cell phone info, video, and testimony but there are short gaps with extrapolated conclusions. The States' case is logical but is that good enough? The motive seems to be that QT wanted some romance but was being rebuffed.

This may be a situation where they got the right man but were unable to solidly prove it.
