As far as I'm concerned it doesn't matter if the drone was shot down or knocked out of the sky with a 2x4 it still resulted in the destruction of private property.
The property owner was charged with wanton endangerment and criminal mischief. In other words, a firearms violation. Nothing about destruction of private property.

When I heard about this deal, I went and researched it to verify it was true
and I do remember reading something about, 'no lower than 400 feet', I know I read that somewhere. I think Jimbo is right.

Your private property rights are terminated when your private property ends up on my property uninvited. Don't bother rebutting this. You will be ignored.

Although the Supreme Court appears to be still haggling over its purchase price for the decision, the ownership altitude is 400 feet from your highest point on your property, and this was lowered from 500 feet to accommodate the Nazi storm troopers and their surveillance flying monkeys flying at that low altitude.

Drones are misnamed, at least the privately owned ones. These are radio controlled toys, and if you put a camera on the damn thing and fly it in my yard peeping in my windows, yeah, I'll shoot it down.

This guy did nothing wrong and I hope if it goes to trial a jury finds him not guilty.

I wondered about the 400 ft level. I was taught that the figure was 500 ft. I haven't been active in the business for a few years.

It should be noted that the 400 ft starts at the highest point attached to the ground. That includes the top of any appurtenances.

You can sell the air space over your land. Chicago Mercantile Mart is built in airspace over the rail yard for one example.

Having a drone hover over someone's property to see what is going on is a violation of the right to privacy, and this libertarian hopes the person who shot the drone down is exonerated.

Above that FAA controls (but still does not own) the space and you do not get unlimited usage just because you have a new toy.
That is completely absurd and violates the very principle of the "natural right of property" established by the labor of the person. A person did not create the earth or the skies above with their labor and has no right of property to it. A person, though their labor, can establish a "right to use" the land but they don't literally own it. As Locke explains if a person does not actively use the land they lose the right to even use it as the land returns to the "common" so that others can use it for their benefit and the benefit of society.

The drone, on the other hand, is a product of labor and a person can have a natural right of property to it.

Of course I know better than to address the Natural Right of Property with a Republican because they don't believe in the natural (inalienable) rights of the person.

Based upon the corruption, brutality, inhumanity, immorality, dishonesty, and incompetence of the Trump administration the White House is the dirtiest house in America and there's no known cleanser that with remove the stains of the Trump Administration.

A person exposed to public observation, regardless of source, does not have a right of privacy. If you want to be private then take in indoors where no one can see you.

There was no actual evidence that the operator of the drone was even spying on anyone. The man that shot it down merely assumed that without any supportive evidence.
