Brian Williams wanted to take over for Jay Leno on the 'Tonight Show,' but NBC said no.

Really kind of too bad. I actually liked Brian Williams (over the other options not having cable or Direct TV) and think he would have done a good job on the Tonight Show. A better job than Jimmy Fallon. I know many like Jimmy he just isn't a guy I like.

ET op tonight said Brian has also put in a bid for Dave Lettermans replacement.

Nahh, he'll be back on NBC Nightly News sooner or later.

All pokes, lies and drama be damned - he ruled the roost there.

Good choice if one wants "The Tonight Show" to be turned into a watered down, weak version of "CBS's 60-Minutes." Williams isn't Hollywood - that counts him out for that job, it's a position for a comedian and someone who can plug movies and is familiar with the movie industry. Even Johnny Carson got booted by the movie behind the scenes power brokers, when they tossed him from hosting the Academy Awards, because he was television - not Silver Screen. The fact that all the movie stars plugged their new movies on his show regularly didn't make any difference. Williams would be a huge dud in the position. Fallon? OK - but the guy who got the job, than was tossed, was Conan. I always felt that "Wheel Of Fortune" host Pat Sayjack would have made a good replacement as host of "The Tonight Show." STFN
