The article doesn't specify on what's being used...

If it's something like switchgrass, then it'll be a good move...

But if it's corn or edible grains, then expect the price of agricultural products to skyrocket...

Biodiesel plants make biodiesel fuel with used fryer grease, animal fats and grease collected in restaurant grease traps.
But of course now that California plans to have the whole country go on a no trans fat diet...

Good catch...I guess I missed that sentence...

I wonder if they charge for grease removal or the restaurants and such do it for free...

Well in today's economic climate, a restaurant chain would be smart to get the best deal they could. But if the fuel problem wasn't so newsy, I figured they would do something like they used to with pig farming. As long as the farmer was consistent, it was an even Steven deal to pick up food type garbage. Or sometimes the farmer paid the restaurant. The employees had to make sure and separate the garbage from the trash. Saved money on trash disposal fees and was more environment friendly long before it was politically correct.

We raised hogs when I was a kid and we had a deal with the Frito-Lay guy. He'd stop by once a week with all of the outdated chips he had pulled since his last stop and drop 'em off. It was a win/win for all concerned since our place was only about 1 1/2 miles out of his way and the cost of disposing of the chips far outweighed the cost of the fuel and time to drop the chips at our house. We also had a deal with the local grain elevator company. When railcars are dumped, there's always some grain left in the corners. This has to be removed before they can send the rail cars on. We'd go out there on the weekends and sweep up the left over grain and take it home to the hogs. All in all, our feed costs were pretty low.

Yep. We had an arrangement with a tortilla factory. But it was just occasional.
And although this was in Texas we never had snakes when there were hogs around!
I wouldn't mind getting one or two now, but I would have to sketch water on them all the time. I have considered a nannie goat or a calf though. Maybe just to drive my dog nuts.

We raised laying hens at the same time and all of the bad eggs and bad hens ended up getting fed to the hogs. One winter, we lost half of one of our hen houses to fire and a hundred or so hens (out of a thousand or so) ended up surviving the fire and getting out. They'd roost on the pigs backs because it was warm in hog barn. Now you'd never think that something that big could be that fast, but those hogs would wait patiently until the hen had settled down and then spin around a snatch them out of the air.

All you need to do is put in one those "Arizona Misters" to keep 'em cool.

It's good somebody's stepping up. But they have to make sure safety is not compromised.

Compared to the dangers of working on an oil rig, I don't think that would be an issue...
