GOP adds another Senate seat as Sullivan wins Alaska

Quote:

Republican candidate Dan Sullivan defeated Democratic incumbent Sen. Mark Begich in Alaska’s U.S. Senate race Wednesday.

The win gives the GOP eight Senate pickups in the midterm elections. The party is also seeking a ninth seat in Louisiana’s runoff in December.

Sullivan ran a confident campaign, ignoring the debate schedule Begich established and setting his own terms.

He pledged to fight federal overreach, talked about energy independence and at seemingly every opportunity, sought to tie Begich to President Barack Obama and Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, who are unpopular in Alaska.

Begich complained that Sullivan offered little in the way of proposals for what he would do as senator.

Earlier Tuesday, election workers began counting absentee ballots and early indications were Sullivan maintained an 8,100 vote advantage over Begich. It proved to be true later that night.

AS we all know FOX News can't be trusted so this story is just another lie. We'll have to wait for an approved left wing site to tout a GOP win in Alaska to know if this is true or not....:rofl2

It is not out of the realm of possibility that bags of Democrat votes will be "discovered" just in the nick of time Ala Minnesota. :o

How many runoffs are left? I know of at least one (the Democratic incumbent is a chick).

That's it...

Louisiana...I think it's December 6th...

Democrat Mary Landrieu is a big underdog...

Louisiana has some weird rules...This year, Landrieu had to face off against TWO Republicans...

This is usually a deathknell since both Republicans could cancel each other out, but it didn't happen...In fact, one of the Republicans got a higher percentage than Landrieu and would've already won if this were in most other states, but Louisiana has a rule where the Senate candidates need 50%+1 to win...Obviously, tough to do when there are more than two candidates...

So they take the top two and do a runoff...

You can imagine that people who voted for the top two will do so again, and the race is to get the ex-third candidate's vote...Considering he was another Republican, there's little chance Landrieu would even sniff getting half of them...

Also (as I've said multiple times), the Republicans have a huge enthusiasm advantage...Getting Democrats to come back out, in what looks like a futile effort, to vote again will be a helluva lot tougher than getting Republicans out...:yes

Even with all that, Mary Landrieu has made it through runoffs in the past, she has strength. But unfortunately the Democratic Party has chosen to abandon her without at least giving it a fighting chance. I guarantee you if Bill Cassidy were the underdog in this race, the GOP wouldn't pull ad monies.

This is funny. The Senate might try and sneak in a quick vote on the Keystone Pipeline just so Landrieu can vote "yes" and say, "See, I am on your side!" in a desperate attempt to sway voters in Louisiana for the runoff.

Senate Democrats are weighing plan to approve Keystone — and save Mary Landrieu - The Washington Post

The headline is a lie...:yes

The Democrats are NOT weighing a plan to approve Keystone...:no

The Democrats are weighing a plan to VOTE on Keystone..:yes :mad

Both sides of Congress have a LOOOOOONG history of putting things up for a vote so they can intentionally put themselves on record for or against...The Democrats are doing this simply to allow Landrieu to vote for it and then campaign on it....

Tax dollars at work...:mad

Shows a smidgion of brains on the Democratic Party's part if you ask me. Landrieu has virtually no chance of winning, why throw good money after bad.
