Default Former Tenn. state senator convicted in corruption

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A federal jury has convicted a former Tennessee state senator for taking money from government contractors and lobbying for them while he served in the Senate.

It's the second corruption conviction for John Ford, who was once one of the state's most powerful lawmakers. He was sentenced last year to 5 1/2 years in prison for taking bribes to influence legislation favoring a fake company created by the FBI.

Ford accepted more than $800,000 from contractors for the state's expanded Medicare program. He claimed all his consulting work was legal and performed out of state.

He could face up to 60 years on the charges, but his actual sentence would likely be lower. Ford did not speak to media after Friday's verdict.

It's good to see another crooked politician get convicted. Now, I'd like to see him thrown into the general pop. of a nice big State prison. Any bets on that happening??

And, as usual, the AP decides it wouldn't be in the best interests of pushing the "Republican's are the culture of corruption" myth by actually telling the public what party this chap is part of...

Of course, the LACK of party identification makes it obvious...

For those who may think it's not done on purpose and there's an excuse like "State Senator's are never identified by AP reporters" in their stories, here's one from last week...

Another state legislator has been indicted on bribery and conspiracy charges in an ongoing federal investigation of corruption in Alaska politics that has led to convictions against three former lawmakers.

The two-count indictment against state Sen. John Cowdery was announced Thursday. Federal prosecutors allege that the Anchorage Republican conspired with executives of oil field services company VECO Corp. to bribe another unnamed state senator for votes to support oil and gas legislation.
Corruption is across the board...

The AP just doesn't want you to know that...
