Default lawsuit alleges discrimination against her monkey

Springfield woman’s lawsuit alleges discrimination against her monkey

Quote:
A southwest Missouri woman has sued Wal-Mart, local health officials and Cox Health Systems, claiming they discriminated against her and her monkey named Richard.

Debby Rose of Springfield said in the lawsuit that the 10-year-old bonnet macaque helps curb a social anxiety disorder that can cause her to have panic attacks in public.

The suit contends the Springfield-Greene County Health Department lacked the authority to decide that Richard is not a service animal under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Health officials in 2006 sent letters to restaurants and grocery stores, advising them not to let Rose in with the monkey.

Rose also alleges she was denied access to Cox Health Systems facilities.
This lady really needs to have feces thrown at her...

Methinks that the monkey may just win this one.

Quote:
Rose's doctors are on her side. They say Richard's constant companionship is positive therapy.

"I have a lot of patients that suffer from anxiety ... Many patients are on lots of medication for this problem," said Dr. Larry Halverson, Rose's physician. "Debbie has a monkey that she carries with her and takes no medications and remains very functional. So I think it's a great thing."

She's filing a lawsuit???? All she needs to do is have her Dr. write the Board telling them that the monkey is there for theraputic purposes and the issue should be resolved.

Good luck in getting a doctor to put their reputation on the line with that one. Then again, you have doctors in California writing medical marijuana recommendations for people with headaches.

Way too much tolerance in this country.

Her doctor already gave a statement to the media supporting her. Why do you think he would not also write a letter to the board?

That is not stated in the article linked. Can you please show us where "Her doctor already gave a statement"? I must have missed that one.

Because there's no mention of it in the article. Something like would be an issue that any reporter would know to ask about and report on.

This is a frivolous lawsuit, based on a self-created scenario that could have easily been avoided. It's stupid. The woman should have pursued the issue within the established system instead of suing the Board.
