Default Presidential power

Some here want to argue now that Bush is irrelevant to our current situation. Then why is he there. I main power the POTUS has is the power of his position. The power of the pulpit. He is pushing drilling. And only drilling. He gives speeches he plays politics and encourages policy. But it is almost 100% focused on big oil giveaways.

You want to make jokes about this. I hope you enjoy the laugh. A real leader would have been encouraging reducing our use of oil. Especially when we have to rely on bad actors for it.

One simple comment. Like. "we are in a serious situation. We can effect prices dramtically be reduceing our usage. I am asking the congress to give tax breaks for municipalties that switch to natural gas. I will ask Congress for legislation to deduct the cost of solar to your home. I could list a dozen things a POTUS could do if he was so inclined. Now if you just want to make idiotic comments about this position don't bother, If you can tell me why it wouldn't help I'd love to hear it.

Hey, Mikeyy, I didn't mean any harm in the shoutbox, man. I'm attacking an idea that I think is seriously wrong, and I am doing it in a light-hearted manner.

Accept my apologies if you are in any way offended. It wasn't aimed specifically at you.

So what? Why does this matter?

The whole idea of needing the POTUS to tell the American people to conserve is wrong. It's simple: live within your means.

I find it disingenuous for anyone to tell us repeatedly that the president who has a less than 30% approval rating will all of a sudden be the voice in the wilderness for the people to rally around...

But let's just say he was wildly popular with very high approval ratings. Why even then do we need the President to tell us to conserve?

I don't get what is the matter with this country. Conservation is a joke to roll our eyes about. That is just exactly what they want us to think. And now they have concinced the public that giving away more leases is the only way out. If you don't believe it then maybe off the top of your head can you tell me the current conservation plans from this administration? I can't. And thats the point. If this is a serious situation why isn't it being taken seriously? The partisans are going to divide the country on this like every issue.

This is so simple it is ridiculous. If you are using too much of something you need to cut your use. Not go even deeper the wrong way.

Sure thing. Don't spend money, and then we can all cry about the poor economy.

GEEZ!

A president saying something CAN help but shouldn't be thought of negatively if he doesn't mention the obvious...I don't buy the president as psychoanalysist-in-chief...

While you are conserving, Mikeyy, Al Gore and John Travolta won't be.
