In an alternate universe somewhere I am riding around on a Harley with a small Rebel flag flying from one side and a Macolm X flag from the other. Pissing everybody off.
Yep. I like that fantasy.

American by birth; Southern by the grace of God.
Where do I live now? The northwest.
Why?
Too many damned tourist for on thing. they like the south for many reasons. But they end up wanting to homogenize everything and turn it in to the place they left.
How many southerners have I seen move to Wisconsin and say "hey you guys are just too focused on cheese and football. You need to do it our way cause it's better-you dummy yanks."
Oh excuse me for the little dumb Southerner I am. I just didn't know the south lost. Thank you kind ACLU and northerners for correcting my little dumb a$$!

Good things about the South:
Memphis-style BBQ, sweet tea, southern girls who idolize Daisy Duke...

Bad things about the South:
Humidity, heat, chiggers, tornados, hurricanes, palmetto bugs, 'gators, Gator fans...

It is nice to know that you've decided to live in the best part of the planet. Although, if I remember correctly you live on the wet side, instead of the dry side....

Memphis BBQ sucks. Unless it is at somebody's home. The best BBQ to buy in a restaurant/cafe comes from Alabama.
Bad things about the South:
Humidity, Checkheat, right on chiggers, you mean red bugs tornados, never experienced a tornado in Floridahurricanes, freshens the air-one of the few things I miss palmetto bugs, don't know or don't remember what they are-but I built a hut out of palmettos once and the best moonshine is sweetened with palmetto berries. 'gators, they leave me alone..I leave them alone-I prefer them to people sometimes. Gator fans...With you on that one. Go Noles!!

No I live east of most of the Rockies. So it is very dry. Same plateau as Arizona. I can get along with the people anywhere. As long as there aren't too many of them. It is the terrain that I love. The subdivisions are slowly trying to close us in, but when they do I'll go up to Juntura or somewhere and live out the rest of my happy days.

Wrong mountains - I'm talking about the Cascades. Sounds like you live out in E. Oregon - probably outside of Ontario (Unity, Jordan Valley???). If you want to really get away from it all, head for Wagontire. You and two cats would constitute a population boom.

Yes, folks, that the entire town of Wagontire, Oregon. I think that there's another trailhouse behind the store, but this is pretty much it.

Here in Oregon, these are the pics we show our kids "Here's where you were conceived, right on top of that log."

The Ohwyees are just about the only part of Oregon I haven't visited yet (that and Crater Lake - lived here for 40 years and every single time I've set out for Crater Lake, something happens to stop me ). Most of my time's been spent further west in the Cascades and Ochocos. My favorite's always been Paulina and East Lakes.

Paulina Lake

Paulina Falls (at the bottom of this is a pool we called "The Jacuzzi", lots of kids got conceived there)

Oregon's record Brown Trout

It was the Unites States flag that flew over slavery for 90 years before the Civil War.

It was the United States flag that flew over slavery AFTER the Civil War.

So why aren't they demanding we remove the United States flag?
