Burning Man suspect held in Grace Cathedral arson attempt

Quote:
The man accused of setting the Burning Man on fire four days early has been arrested for planning to set Grace Cathedral ablaze, San Francisco police said Monday.

Paul David Addis, 35, was arrested on the cathedral steps at 11:40 p.m. Sunday after officers were tipped off that someone intended to set fire to the Episcopal church, police spokesman Sgt. Steve Mannina said.

Addis was wearing an old ammunition belt that carried small explosives, Mannina said. He was booked on suspicion of attempted arson, possession of an incendiary substance, possession of explosives and possession of explosives with intent to terrorize a church.

A bomb dog was brought in to search the area and found no other explosives at the California Street cathedral.

Deputy Chief Morris Tabak said Addis had only a small amount of explosives.

"Did he have the capability to do substantial damage? Absolutely not," Tabak said.

Tabak said police didn't know Addis' motive. "He said something about it was his religious right," Tabak said.

Tabak said he expects a judge will order a psychiatric evaluation for Addis, who was being held on $488,000 bail.
Let's take a test...

Who can tell me what this guy was NOT charged with?...

Hint:...It was a Christian Church, so it doesn't apply...

i guess youre looking for the words "hate crime" -the guy sounds like a real nut
Quote:
"This was not an act of vengeance, it was one of love," Addis said then. "A love of the ethos that is fading at Burning Man. There's no sense of spontaneity. No sense of 'F- it. Let's burn this down.' "

About a year ago, in the SF Bay Area, a Mosque burned and immediately the SF Chronicle, the local media, and even some national sources, along with the police said that a hate crimes aspect was being investigated....

even though the investigator said that, at the time, preliminary investigation was that it was a faulty wiring fire.

The people of the mosque didn't buy that. They were quoted in the paper as saying that they were worried about the bigotry that people show to Muslims.

I wonder why the reporter didn't ask some basic questions?

The fact is that after 9/11 there was much handwringing about how Muslims were going to be targeted by hate groups with names like CAIR

and the fact is that there has NOT been any real problem. Some idiot killed a Sikh in Arizona.

BUT everything that has happened to a Muslim has been considered a possible hate crime.

For instance, in Fremont California a woman from Afghanistan was gunned down by some Mexi gangbanger and the family, friends and Mosque-mates immediately said it was a hate crime.

My initial suspicion was that it had something to do with her husband.

You know what though? I never heard anything more about it, so that means that it WASN'T a hate crime for sure.

On another, similar, and stupid politically correct leftist media story...I was listening to NPR and they interviewed a guy who has written a book about the Duke "rape" case, and he made the point that the media used a politcally correct agenda, in the face of overwhelming contradictory evidence, to advance their cause against "rich, white, influential males".

The interviewer just couldn't get over that idea. He said, "Why would the NY Times do something like that". And asked several other questions along that line. He just couldn't accept that the possiblility of bias came thru the media reporting of that case.

Just like the Jena 6 became some sort of black heros after committing a hate crime themselves this story will absolutely not get media coverage except on the O'Reilly Factor.

Anyone remember some black churches were being burned in the South about 18 months-2 years ago?

cnredd...that is the exception to the rule about Christian Churches. If the church has a majority of blacks and it is attacked then it is DEFINITELY a hate crime.

The Catholic Church I attend was slightly vandalized about 2 years ago and it wasn't even covered in the little police blotter section of my local paper.
