This would have to be done in phases. First a certain amount of pollution reduction till manufacturers got rid of old stock as they are making prototypes and selling a few new ones.
Eventually the goal is a non dinosaur fueled vehicle.
Diesel engines are produced lower and lower surfer at present.
Farm equipment has a clause and I don't think for off road we should mess with them or play mobiles for a good while till the market is more geared toward a clean fuel. Bio or alternate whatever it takes.
And existing work or play vehicles should be grandfathered in.

a lot better than 'spreading the love' (smell and poison) all over the place.

salty just killed the auto industry, put millions of people out of work, and lowered the American standard of the middle class in just three posts.

No she didn't. She basically created a new industry of jobs by means of reclamation of old cars. Increased jobs in the industries that provide materials and production of batteries. She also increased research and development jobs geared toward creation of more clean fuel vehicle designs.

You people act as if repurposing our technology toward clean fuel designs means we have to destroy an industry. It doesn't. It just means the industry changes its focuse.

The facilities to make batteries dump as much pollution into the atmosphere as a modern coal fired plant. Electric cars aren't the answer. Hydrogen fuel cells are easier to manufacture, don't require elaborate chemicals with noxious fumes and their only by-product is water.

We need to find a cheap source of hydrogen to make these fuel cells competitive with current electrical sources. Anyone know how to split atoms cheaply?

The best thing about a fuel cell is that it can also be used for home or business electricity which would eliminate all the nasty electrical producing plants and the electrical grid.

One of the cheapest, and easiest ways to acquire hydrogen is by the burning of wood. If done correctly, this produces both hydrogen and carbon monoxide which can be mixed to produce a fuel. water, carbon and carbon dioxide is the waste materials from this burning in an engine.

How about bicycles and/or bus passes if they have a job!

How about just letting them get their own cars like everyone else. When their car dies and they have to get a new one, they will have to buy a newer model that has upgraded emission standards. Just like everyone else.
