Default Jeb Bush defends his decision to honor Hillary Clinton

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush will award former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday with the 2013 Liberty Medal, saying it’s part of a shared interest in the “importance of civic engagement.”

The potential opponents in the 2016 presidential election come together as Bush presents Clinton with the award at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia to honor her lifelong career in public service and her ongoing advocacy efforts on behalf of women and girls around the globe. Bush is chairman of the National Constitutional Center.

“While Secretary Clinton and I disagree on many issues, we certainly agree on the importance of civic engagement,” Bush said in a statement to the Tampa Bay Times.

“The Board looks forward to the Center’s annual celebration of the vision of freedom, responsibility and equality embodied in the U.S. Constitution,” Bush continued.

The event takes place one day shy of the one year anniversary of the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that left four Americans dead and critics on the right question Clinton receiving the award because of the controversy centered around that attack.

At the time it was announced that Bush would honor Clinton, talk show host Rush Limbaugh responded by saying, “What in the name of Sam Hill…?”

“This is the kind of stuff that causes my friend I was talking about [...] to think the Republican Party has been infiltrated,” Limbaugh added.

And the National Review’s Jim Geraghty questions whether this “pretty much destroys the ‘Jeb Bush 2016′ talk.”

“If Jeb Bush didn’t want to run for the Republican nomination, he could have just said so,” Geraghty wrote.

According to the Christian Science Monitor, the Independence Hall Foundation – an affiliate of the Independence Hall Tea Party Association – plans to hold a coinciding event in Philadelphia Tuesday to promote its alternative choice for the Liberty Medal and host a prayer vigil for those lost in Benghazi.

Oooops! He had to back out. Looks like the right was upset and he may want to run for something. Jeb, Man up! It was an award about her work for woman around the globe but politics trumps honor.

so sad that saying something nice about a political opponent is cause for the GOP to dump somebody.
If I was any Bush I wouldn't wipe my feet on the present day Republican Party.

The article starts with a bad premis. Jeb Bush isn't a potential opponent in the general election so he'll never face Hilary.

Yeah, like I could ever keep up with you when it comes to spinning. It's not fair, you've had so much practice covering for b.o.

Jeb Bush is an honorable man, he just isn't a viable candidate in the republican primary. As such he'll never face Hilary Clinton in a presidential election.

he isn't a viable primary candidate NOW. but this helps his chances of being a general election candidate. how can you not see that?

Except he didn't back out and politics didn't trump honor...

Now go shout at a mirror so someone just as partisan hears you...

Hillary Clinton receives Liberty Medal, shares stage with Jeb Bush

Quote:
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton accepted the Philadelphia Liberty Medal on Independence Mall Tuesday night in a ceremony broadcast live on 6abc.

In doing so, she shared the stage with former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who chairs the National Constitution Center.

Bush joined other dignitaries in honoring Clinton's "lifelong career in public service."

"Hillary and I come from different political parties and we disagree about lots of things. But we do agree on the wisdom of the American people - especially those in Iowa and New Hampshire and South Carolina," Bush joked, referring to the three states that have traditionally played pivotal roles in presidential campaigns. Bush joked that Clinton was visiting Des Moines, Iowa, next week. "Now, don't actually wear the medal there, Madam Secretary."

He isn't a viable candidate at all, the republican party isn't going to allow a Bush to win the primary and Jeb won't run because he knows that.
