Singer Linda Ronstadt has Parkinson's Disease

According to an AARP interview:

Quote:

Ronstadt, who was diagnosed eight months ago, now sometimes requires walking assistance... full interview with Ronstadt will appear on the organizationís site next week, and her memoir, Simple Dreams, will be out in in September (though, the AARP story notes, the book does not address her diagnosis).

Quote:

"I couldn't sing," she told AARP music reporter Alanna Nash, "and I couldn't figure out why. I knew it was mechanical. I knew it had to do with the muscles, but I thought it might have also had something to do with the tick disease that I had. And it didn't occur to me to go to a neurologist."
Quote:

Ronstadt says that she had undergone a shoulder operation, and she believed that to be the culprit for her trembling hands.

"Parkinson's is very hard to diagnose, so when I finally went to a neurologist and he said, 'Oh, you have Parkinson's disease,' I was completely shocked," she said. "I wouldn't have suspected that in a million, billion years."

Very sad news indeed.
But Parkinson's isn't the end of life.
Hopefully she'll get the best treatment possible and be able to function in a way that makes her happy.

Of course not. Look at Michael J. Fox. After being diagnosed with Parkison's in 1991 he's made epic, successful, and memorable films such as The Hard Way, The Frighteners, Life With Mikey, Greedy, Blue in the Face..... You know what? I'm not helping much or making a good case.

Wow!!! I hate to hear that. She has one hell of a voice. Good luck to her and her family.

Photos of Linda when she was younger are the splitting image of one of my daughters.
My father had Parkinson's and once he started on some new medications just developed he improved tremendously. There are some effective medications on the market nowadays. I wish her well. She has an amazing voice.

They have remarkable treatments for Parkinson's now that they didn't have 20 years ago. In fact, in severe cases, they can implant a device that is like a pace-maker and controls the electrical currents and help prevent the shakes. In some cases, eliminating them completely. There was a great segment about this the other day on a daytime show. I think it's called "The Doctors"...
