Default Holder Tries to Re-grab Texas

Attorney General Eric Holder is now attempting an end run around the Supreme Court's recent ruling, overturning a portion of the 1965 Voting Rights Act--a portion that the High Court considered obsolete in 2013.

Here is a part of a good article on the subject:

Quote:
Two important developments this morning. First: Attorney General Eric Holder will announce that the Justice Department will initiate broad nationwide attacks on election integrity measures like Voter ID using the remaining portions of the Voting Rights Act. Last month, the Supreme Court struck down the 1965 triggers that forced 15 states to submit election law changes to Washington D.C. for federal approval.

Second: despite the Supreme Court’s ruling, the Justice Department announced it will try to recapture Texas under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act by showing the state continues to act with a racially discriminatory intent when passing voting laws. ...

For the last few weeks, Voting Section employees have taken extended coffee breaks, and even more extended lunches. But there was hope — outgoing Assistant Attorney General Tom Perez referred to the state of Louisiana as the “full employment for Voting Section lawyers state.”

That means Governor Bobby Jindal can expect more targeting by the DOJ Voting Section.

But this announcement is all about the midterm elections. Obama wants the House back, and the Justice Department is again being turned into a political weapon using the cloak of Civil Rights. This has become the new civil rights model. Because Democratic interests are so perfectly aligned with the civil rights establishment — in no small measure because of extreme block voting by American blacks — the DOJ is now an arm of the DNC.

Yeah the ruling just said there's no automatic revue on those states anymore. But if there's suspicion of problems we can have a judge review it and have revues out as long as -I believe- 10 years.
I would definitely look the two he's looking at- Texas and NC for problems. We must be vigilant in our protection of the right to vote.

The use of the passive voice--"if there's suspicion" (presumably, by the not-exactly-neutral DoJ of Eric Holder and President Obama) is really most revealing...

Translation: You would "definitely look" at reliably red states, for special scrutiny...

Texans did not bow down to some chewing gum lover from Meheeco. Some arrogant sock puppet who works "under" Obama won't even raise the pus in a flea boil.

Texas is a prejudiced place. Especially against Hispanics in many counties. I've lived there, I know what I'm talking about. If they've cleaned up their act since the 90's good for them, a little inspection won't hurt.
I'd think you would welcome this, being so patriotic and all...

How, in the name of Zeus's butthole, did you grasp the idea that I am some dumb Texan?

Why don't we all--in a fit of "patriot[ism]"--just embrace the idea of putting special restrictions on, say, California? After all, it also has many citizens of Hispanic heritage.

Oh, that's' right: California is a reliably blue state; and it is exclusively red states that the Obama administration is targeting...

What you call a restriction-and I'm not at all clear why you are thinking in reverse , I call freedom. The restriction would be if there are minorities who are discouraged from voting due to prejudicial procedure.
