Six Flags: Woman killed while riding Texas Giant

The accident happened at about 6:45 p.m. as Carmen Brown was next in line to ride the coaster. Brown said the woman got on the ride with her son.

"She goes up like this," Brown said raising her hand up in the air. "Then when it drops to come down that's when it released and she just tumbled ... And I said that could have been me because I don't do roller coasters."

Also in line was the Putman family, of Rockwall. Mother Darlene, father John and daughters Ashley and Haley Putman stood behind the victim and her family for an hour.

"They were laughing and talking," the father said.

Mr. Putman said the woman appeared to be in her 50s. The family didn't witness the fall, but said her son was clearly distraught.

"He was saying 'She fell; she fell,'" Mrs. Putman said.

The Putmans said he tried to race onto the tracks, but workers escorted him away.

Six Flags immediately closed the ride and the surrounding area while most of the park remained open.

Officials at Six Flags did not reveal details on the woman's death, but released an official statement not long after the fatal incident:

We are deeply saddened to share that earlier this evening an adult woman died in the park while on the Texas Giant. Park medical staff and local paramedics responded immediately. Since the safety of our guests and employees is our number one priority, the ride has been closed pending further investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during this difficult time.

Originally an all wooden roller coaster introduced to the park in 1990, the ride was redesigned with a steel track and re-opened in April of 2011 during the theme park's 50th anniversary. The ride's tallest height is 153 feet and has a drop of 147 feet.

Six Flags says the ride has "a record-breaking bank" of 95 degrees, "steeper than any wooden coaster on the planet."

Arlington police are investigating whether the woman suffered a medical emergency before the fall.

Yeah the park is praying she had a medical problem...
I don't do stupid sh*t like jump out of air planes and bungee, and bigazzed roller coasters. Or white water raft, or walk across a falls on a tight rope...
guess I'm just boring but my thrill is really seeing the sunrise.

The world is a terrifying place, I went on a rollercoaster once and it was truly a horrifying experience, I was certain I was about to die and could not breathe.

RIP to this woman, just went to the park for fun and then fell. Lesson is to never EVER take risks.

You take risks everyday in your home. A slip in fall getting in or out of a shower or bathtub. A trip down the stairs is always fun. Turning on the stove is a gas.

I love roller coasters, they are fun and mostly safe if you follow the safety rules and remain seated with the bar across your lap.

I suspect that the bar across her lap was not fastened correctly and that is why she was ejected from her seat.

Because it's a ridiculous thing to say about death. Who is "he"? Why not "she", why not "it"? Silly concept. Life happens. Death happens. Death can happen by accident, intentention, incompetence, disease, war, and many other ways - and not because some sky daddy calls you back to the fairy kingdom.

For some reason, many people have difficulty coping with that reality.
