Default Obama: Health care is a right, not a privilege

This shows just how out of touch Obama really is:

Quote:
Obama seems to be confused on what a right is.
Check it out:

Beset by multiple controversies in Washington, President Obama tried to turn the nation’s attention to his 2010 health care overhaul during a Friday trip to California where he encouraged all Americans who are currently uninsured, and specifically Latinos in the state, to enroll in government-subsidized insurance exchanges.
Flanked by representatives from Spanish-language media outlets Impremedia, Univision and Telemundo, Mr. Obama touted the plan’s provision of coverage for 10.2 million uninsured Latinos and argued that the new law is already resulting in lower premium costs.
“Quality, affordable care is not some earned privilege – it’s a right,” he said during remarks at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, Calif.

Did you ever stop and think it might be assumed in things like the Declaration of Independence and later the Constitution in the right of Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness? Not every detail is spelled out in the constitution but always assumed I had a right to medical attention when my life was threatened be it foreign, domestic or due to health.

Did you notice he said quality, affordable care, not emergency care? Right now, no one is turned away if they need immediate medical care. This is done for humanitarian reasons, not because the government is forcing them to do so.

However, health care is not a RIGHT. Neither is food or housing. It's up to each individual to furnish those items through work or self performance. The government is not here to coddle people who can't make the grade or refuse to do anything to help themselves. That was never the intention of our founding fathers and is certainly made clear in our constitution. A quote from Ben Franklin:

Quote:
The U. S. Constitution doesn't guarantee happiness, only the pursuit of it. You have to catch up with it yourself.
In other words there are no guarantees. It only gives you the chance to secure these things for your self. It certainly was never anticipated that the government would take it on themselves to do so.

Actually partner that is why your health care cost with those of us that have insurance is so high because someone will pay for the emergency room visits by those with out insurance. Oh and the right wing is out of touch not only on this but on almost everything hence they will soon become a bad memory.

they never get that, or they're in denial. it's been pointed out and illustrated with links many times on this board alone.

Yes and those costs are going to go even higher when Obamacare kicks in. Right now, those people are only going for emergency procedures, but once they have insurance, they will be going to the doctor for every little hangnail. Not only will costs increase, it will worsen an already shortage of skilled medical practitioners.

What costs, exactly, did the ACA address to make them affordable?

None.

So, prepaying insurance, no matter if it is used or not, for a couple of million people, is less expensive than paying for an ER on an as needed basis.

No.

You honestly think ER visits is what has driven up health insurance?

DUH, it is fact ER visits are the least paid for, hence the cost are passed of to those with insurance. Don't take my word for it read the reports posted by a number of groups to that fact. Never mind it is the single most expensive form of health care in this country and probably on the planet.

We will see won't we as it still has another year before it kicks in completely now so give it a chance before you wine about it. I'm not a fan of this system but give it a chance already before you condemn it as it seems you haven't read the bill nor knows what it does. Besides it can be tuned over time to lower the cost, and again we will see.
