Wrong.

1. Licensing doesn't prevent the use of weapons in crimes nor does it help the police track who used the gun.

2. Registration doesn't prevent the use of weapons in crimes nor does it help the police track who used the gun.

For licensing and registration to work, the police have to have the gun. If they have the gun, they have the evidence to track the user without licensing or registration. Care to try again?

EDIT: People who use their gun legally object to licensing and registration because they don't work and don't solve the problem.
The only reason gun control advocates want registration is so they know where to get the guns once the federal government decides they will no longer allow individual ownership of guns. This is the whole purpose of gun control advocates. They won't be satisfied until the government controls all the weapons. They are dumb enough to believe our politicians won't take advantage of a situation like that to start up a dictatorship. They don't realize how periously close we already are to that situation. The only thing keeping it from happening is gun ownership by individuals. That's why the big push for more gun control laws. A little here and a little there until finally the guns are controlled and the government takes over.

So since she won't reply let's discuss what safe storage is between you and I.

I consider my guns in safe storage when in my home they aren't in open view but concealed so only we know where they are. I don't hot chamber my guns. I think that most of the time someone in your home is going to leave when they hear the rack of a .40 or a 12 gauge being chambered and it won't go any further. I don't hot chamber when I carry either, yes it loses me one round but again I figure me pulling it out and racking one in will probably end the discussion.

The majority of my guns are in the gun safe. Not because I'm worried someone will accidentally shoot themselves but because I don't want them stolen or touched. They are worth a lot of money and I want to keep them safe. The gun safe is to keep my guns safe, not to keep me from getting to them. They wouldn't be of use in a home invasion anyway so no need to keep them out.

My son is 19, raised with guns and quite proficient, my wife was raised by a family that shot NRA competition and is proficient. I don't worry about them playing with the guns I worry about them not getting to one of the loaded ones in time.

That to me is responsible ownership and safety.
Bolded portion - +1

12 guage - 18" barrel - 00 buckshot
Biggest deterrent I can think of
