Just a simple question...

Wouldn't this just be in line with OSHA? I mean I know some people would rather coal workers get black lung and oil workers not have safety requirements for working around pressurized gases, but we have that. It's not going away. AND it has lead to a dramatic reduction in workplace injury and corresponding lawsuits.

I guess I just don't see how this is really any different.

It would kind of be like OSHA but much like OSHA this wouldn't be one of the good rules that actually help because they already get tested every week. This is just another stupid rule like not connecting two extension cords together is a 10 grand fine.

You won't get a dramatic decline in porn star STD's with this condom law the testing took care of that but you may get some money in fines.

Actually, that rule is the stupid rule. HIV is not guaranteed to show up a week after infection. In fact, there are many cases where it lies virtually undetectable for months. And testing does not PREVENT infection at nearly the rate that condoms do.

Really the current law is like stuffing a rag into a guys mouth and sending him down into a coal mine to work. While it may be marginally effective, it doesn't have nearly the same sort of effective rates as a respirator. So we mandate the respirator because it's the safest means.

Not when you take a minute to think about it.

You may not get a "dramatic" decline, but you will get a decline. Why? Because it's more effective than testing.

The last case of AIDS was in 1994 I think I read. It seems they have successfully policed themselves and got it under control. Which makes sense if you're in that business to do that. No legislation was needed.

I've spent a few minutes thinking bout the extension cord rule. What horrible evil do you see coming from it. All that can happen is if you put too many together your drill isn't getting enough juice and won't run right. Another horror is the breaker kicks, brutal, we need a law. Most probable is the plumber keeps f*cking with you and unplugging the cords, they can't help it it's what plumbers do.

THIS is where you are mistaken...

HIV-Positive Performer Shuts Down L.A. Porn Industry - ABC News

So the last PUBLIC case was at least as recent as 2011.

The article in the OP said 2004. So seven years and another one popped up. Ok still way down from the bad years. So what law are we going to pass when in another 7 years or so the next case is reported? You're looking for zero cases of STD's an that's just not going to happen.

I can't really believe that you're going to try that lame attempt at side-stepping the issue by trying to assert that the porn industry has only had one infection in seven years.

Syphilis Scare: Porn Production Halted After Adult Film Actor Tests Positive - ABC News (2012)
One HIV Positive Porn Star Shuts Down Industry | Fox News (2010)

But you and I know that these are only a few examples of the prolific spread of sexually transmitted diseases. We KNOW of a means that will permit the industry to continue to operate and INCREASE safety for the workers, but we're unwilling to regulate that? That doesn't make much sense. We're willing to regulate the requirement of other safety precautions across all of industry. There is no reason why porn should be treated like the bastard stepchild.

There are actors infected with HIV that still perform and the production companies just have the other performs sign a waiver of knowing. What?!
