If the text msgs were faked, then he should be prosecuted. Even if they weren't, just making the claim and then recanting it should most definitely deserve getting booted from the campaign and having the candidate denounce him VERY publically.

Faking texts is actually pretty easy if you don't dig too deep. Assign a number of a friend to a name other than your friend's. Then have your friend send you text messages and they look like they came from someone else, as long as you don't dig too deeply.
