A lot of second guessing going on. None of us being in that situation or having witness it do not know all the facts, so giving the officer the benefit of the doubt seems reasonable.

No. Officers cannot simply be given the "benefit of the doubt" when it comes to the safety and protection of the most helpless and vulnerable members of our society: small children, the elderly and infirm, and the catastrophically handicapped (which would include an individual missing an arm and a leg).

When an officer causes the death of a guy like that in the line of duty, he's got some explaining to do, just as he would if he killed a four-year-old child in the line of duty. And it's unlikely, in my opinion, that any explanation he manages to come up with will suffice.

Of course not, you already have him tried and convicted. You have no idea what transpired, but yet you jump to conclusions. You read an article and decided his guilt.

This reminds me of this incident:
'Gunman' shot dead by police was carrying table leg in bag | Mail Online

Our police aren't armed routinely apart from when there is a special incident, then the marksmen attend the situation. Tragically we had two policewomen murdered last week, the first murders of police in three years I believe. (There are approximately 60 million people in the UK).

If some posters do not like the idea of other posters second-guessing what is posted here regarding any news story, then what, in the name of a flying monkey's butthole, is the reason for discussion? Nobody is in a court of law here indicting, convicting, or sentencing anybody.

I believe the officer IS a basement child escapee.

Maybe the officer had a legitimate fear of being written on.

Me to. And I saw Yahoo's same day report on this, and it was about the same as Comet's post.

And I have not seen any other news report on this yet. One could google it.

Hopefully this officer never becomes a celebrity. Some fan will run up with a pen and piece of paper to have him sign an autograph and he will think it is a machete and assault rifle and shoot him dead.
