Girls Charged In Brutal Videotaped Beating To Be Tried As Adults


POLK COUNTY, Fla. -- Eyewitness News learned Thursday that prosecutors will charge the seven Polk County girls at the center of a violent beating as adults.

The group is accused of attacking a 16-year-old girl and recording the act so they could post it on the Internet. They'll now face battery and kidnapping charges as adults and the kidnapping charge could be punishable with life in prison.

Three of the girls were also charged with tampering with a witness.

The suspect’s first appearances in court are set for Friday afternoon.

"Street cred" trumps "consequences", and even moreso, the punishment for the attack will give them even MORE street cred...

What's most disturbing to me is that they have only showed about 2 minutes of the tape and that was brutal enough. There are 28 or so more minutes of them beating this poor girl senseless.

They need to be tried as adults. A ten year old would know better than to kidnap someone and then gang beat her. This was brutal and violent to an extreme. I also think that they should find some way to charge parents with these crimes, too, when they happen. If parents won't voluntarily take an interest in raising children with integrity and discipline, then the state has a vested interest in forcing the issue.

like most of these things go there is probably a couple of ring leaders. But watching the mother of one of these idiots on TV makes me think they should be charged somehow. She basically said that the girl getting beaten should be willing to back up her words. The funny thing is that the girl was willing to fight the one girl she had the issue with. Stupid.

Charge them as adults. A clear message needs to be sent that this kind of behavior is TOTALLY unacceptable.
