Federal entitlement expenditures are what is killing us financially. But Demcrats attack even the suggestion of entitlement reform even when it is Obama that does it. Obama's claim he put SS reform on the table as part of the debt ceiling deal sent Nancy Pelosi into a reactionary lather. She went braying to the Obama WH to "save" SS.

I already addressed this is post #226 in this thread (although these people are by no means "mythical"). Included are "neoconservatives, paleoconservatives, social conservatives, religious conservatives, and national-defense conservatives."

To which, one might also add fiscal conservatives.

Oh, and it is not according to my standard that these are conservatives. (The very fact that the word, "conservatives," appears in the respective descriptions of these folks should serve as some sort of tipoff...)

As I have indicated previously, outside of New England, there are very few Republican officeholders (in either the US House or the US Senate) who are not conservatives, as I understand the term.

If that answer does not satisfy you, then one can only assume that you are not being serious with your inquiry...

What one person says is conservative, the next will say it's not, and some will immediate go with the hate mode...

The Tea party candidates are the closest thing to real conservatism, but that's just going to be met with "extremism" and "radical" and "throwing grandma off a cliff", and "in the pockets of the Koch brothers" and "want the poor to get poorer" and so on and son...So why bother?...

A place full of opinions that are put up for banter to be challenged. A place where we can agree to disagree on some things but, a place where we can weed out msm stuff as a group to find some pearls that might change our minds from time to time.....

But there ARE topics that you KNOW are going to lead nowhere...No matter how involved an answer or how in-depth you try to make it, you pre-know the result and realize the effort isn't worth it...

Some dropped out of the presidential race months ago: Michele Bachmann; Herman Cain; and Rick Perry among them.

Others never entered the race: e.g. Chris Christie; Mitch Daniels; Bobby Jindal; Sarah Palin, et al.

Please do not ask me to defend the conservatism of each of these, individually. That is just a bit too tedious for my tastes.

If you do not consider them true conservatives, that is certainly your prerogative...
