A gun is a weapon, yes, but what about those poor targets, cans and other plinking items that get shot? What harm have they done to anybody?

Attempting to make them happy to be here has been my life's work, and will continue to be.
My children would never talk sh!t about me on the internet, but that's because they've always been free to air their views- including their dissatisfactions- right to my face. Therefore, they have no reason to sneak around and badmouth me behind my back.
I remember some time back a kid reminding his parents that he did not ask to be here, and now that they had brought him here, looking especially at his mother, he told them in the worst manner that they could "screw themselves" and stop griping about having to take care of him. They never told him that the "mother" was actually his aunt, who took him in after his actual mother had died of cancer several years before.

Well, that was pretty misguided of them. What the hell was the purpose of it?
Is it so shameful to die of cancer that your children should be spirited away and convinced that you never existed and that somebody else actually gave birth to them? Psychos.
Concealing something like that would probably be illegal these days. People, including adoptees, deserve to know their medical history. It can make an enormous difference in their life expectancy, especially when there's something like a first-degree relative (in this case, a mother) with a history of cancer.

Anyway, you say you "remember" it.... how is it that you knew of this subterfuge, when the "kid" in question did not?

Evidently this guy's 15 minutes of fame is extending on do to the punditry...

He put up a web-site giving "his side" response to some of the discussions going on in the news.
Response to Dr. Phil | Eight Minutes of Fame

(Video at the "8minutes" site is titled "Dr. Phil’s Broadcast on NBC")

I think Dr. Phil's comments are missing a point in some areas. The father's response misses a point in some areas.
I think his first comment was pretty good: “This is a real mouthy kid; wonder where she got that?”

Informal Today.com poll: "Dad shooting laptop over Facebook post is..."
73% Appropriate Punishment
10% Abuse

He sounds like a caring and loving father. He should be commended.

Late last night I was watching TV when an ad caught my eye. It was for some sort of headphones that pick up the TV so you can watch and not disturb others. The part of the ad that caught my eye was a father trying to watch TV with two children fighting in the room.

Next scene.......dad, wearing the headphones, is happily watching and hearing the TV and can no longer hear the kids bickering.

Is that what parenting has come down to? "Forget parenting them, just drown them out"?

TV advertising is expensive. The ad agency must have researched things and came up with an idea that people would identify with. Yes, it is a shame that that is the way of the world. One of the most important things one can do with one's children is give them time and attention.

Time, attention and a sense of who is in charge!

I've seen parents just ignore their children's bad behavior, but now we've got companies advertising products to make it easier!
