Bingo!

If I understand this correctly, you want to see where anybody has said to respond to physical and verbal bullying differently? Look at my post number 4 above, and you will see that I taught my kids, and my grandkids to ignore babbling (verbal diarrhea from the bully or punk}.

Hell, we see supposedly grown adults, advocating that same behavior around here.

Since when is a physical response, to a person-on-person verbal attack......justified?

I personally think it is only those who have a Neanderthal mentality, that feel a need to attack physically...when bullied verbally.

I also think that a lot of those types of people (not saying you're one) who think violence is the answer...are nothing but bullies themselves.

.
I never included adults in my statements, just to clarify. Even the best of kids will react with emotions (physical) rather than thought. Lash out, act out, whatever they call it currently.

I was raised in a thinking environment, but still reacted when necessary, physically. Not because it was what I wanted to do (well, most the time ) but it was what the other person would understand.

I have yet to meet a kid who hasn't reacted physically when pushed (verbally) to the limits of their tolerance, even the sweet young ladies of kindergarten. It may be a push, a shove, throwing something. It is still a physical response.

Which is exactly what the girl in the OP did.

Fair enough.

I stand corrected.

No problem. Herding cats is easier than teaching little kids how to deal with verbal bullying, though.

It's also sad (and revealing), to hear those who think the answer to it is just more physical violence.

The real answer is vigilance by adults and swift punishment of the bullies.

.
What are you talking about?

The adults in the schools are vigilant, and their over-educated response is to apply sweet reason to the bullies who enjoy tormenting others and are thus impervious to reason, and to victims who don't need to hear it, and get no benefit from it.

Add to that the the wussified school system uses "punishments" like suspensions, which are useless against kids who revel in ignorance.

Violence is never a good answer, but the World being what it is, it is often the best answer available.

Unbelievable that a 10-year-old would even have the wherewithal to kill herself.
I remember when I was middle-school aged (older than this child) sometimes being so angry or sad that I wished I would just never wake up again... but even then, some superstitious instinct would kick in and I'd take back the wish, lest it actually come true.
It's hard to imagine a child this young believing there was no hope, no future.
When I hear about these bullied children, I always wonder why they don't just run away- steal money from their moms' purses and hop a Greyhound to anywhere. Whether they got very far or not, at least things would have to change after that.
I wish they'd try other things- anything and everything, no matter how extreme- before arriving at this final solution.

Over-generalize much?

So your alternative to suspension and other non-physical discipline... is to just beat them up?

Puhhleeze.

I suppose for those who harbor fantasies of making up for every injustice heaped upon them....it might be appealing.

For civilized people...I don't think it is.
