Default Longshoremen storm Wash. state port, damage RR

Quote:
LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) Hundreds of Longshoremen stormed the Port of Longview early Thursday, overpowered and held security guards, damaged railroad cars, and dumped grain that is the center of a labor dispute, said Longview Police Chief Jim Duscha.

Six guards were held hostage for a couple of hours after 500 or more Longshoremen broke down gates about 4:30 a.m. and smashed windows in the guard shack, he said.

The International Longshore and Warehouse Union believes it has the right to work at the facility, but the company has hired a contractor that's staffing a workforce of other union laborers.
Let's see if I can get this straight. A union believes it has the right to work at a facility and will riot/destroy property if the OWNER believes otherwise.
Worse yet they will hold guards hostage!

I wonder if they were listening to Hoffa?

Round them up and arrest them all for menacing the public. Prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law and let it be an example for the rest of the rabble.

Lawful protest is one thing. This was kidnapping, vandalism and all around criminal behavior.

I don't blame them for being pissed off, but they certainly took the wrong course of action in showing it.

And they could have been listening to Hoffa... or maybe Bachmann. The both said basically the same thing. Just toward different people.

REALLY?...

A company uses other workers besides them and that leads you to believe that's a legitimate reason to be pissed off?????''...

You wanna compare the history of the people Hoffa talks to to the people Bachmann talks to?...

Why should they get pissed off?

Legitimate or not is beside the point. But if you need work and bills need to be paid, it's easy to see the frustration of not getting a job that you believe you should be doing.

What would give them the notion that they should be doing that job?

Assuming the article is factual and truthful, I hope these men are arrested and prosecuted.

Protesting and voicing your opinion is a vital part of democracy. But there are ways to go about it. This was not one of them.

You will have to ask them that. It would just seem odd for 500 people to go to this extreme over a job they didn't feel they should have gotten. I'm guessing there is more to the story than this article articulated.
