From what I have heard, Larry Craig has been a BIG obstacle to the "flow" of things on this issue.

What have the Democrats been doing to keep Craig around as a punching bag?
Keeping quiet...

They're not puffing their chests into microphones defending the guy, but they are being silent about any punishment unlike the Republicans...

So they are blocking his discipline by being insidiously quiet?
Those conniving bastards!

I never said they were bastards or anything of the sort...

All I said was that they want Craig around so he can continue to be in the spotlight and damage the Republicans politically...

Standard political fare...

This you can't deny...

Democrats have a history of keeping morons around after they've "commited sins" (Kennedy, Jefferson, Studds) and Republicans have a history of trying to get them to leave (Foley, Cunningham, Craig)...

The Democrats allow the voting public to determine who represents them. Blame the voters that send these guys back.

Nope...

The voters sent them back because THEIR PARTY kept them IN the party and supported their candidacies during election time...Would Studds or Kennedy win their re-elections if they had their (D) stripped from the back of their names?...

Mark Foley hasn't even been indicted for a crime, yet if he were to jump in front of a podium and say "I will try to regain my seat come election time.", the Republican response would be "On your own, 'cuz you ain't gonna get any help from us."..

If that were a Democrat (as shown by their reactions to people like Jefferson and Studds), their response would be quite different...They'd throw a "welcome back!" party and give him a chair on various committees...

Lieberman did... Kennedy would. Studds might have.

Prove that they got support from the national committee. And even if they did, the decision is still in the hands of the voting public. A fact you conveniently ignore.

Not true. There were no parties. There was an acceptance of the will of the people.

This story really makes me sad.

If our society (or at least the segment of society he lives in) was more tolerant of gay people, this man would have been able to live as he is, a gay man. He wouldn't have had to lie to everyone and himself his whole life about who he is.

I'm not sure if most younger gay people (myself included), let alone any straight people, can clearly picture the mental state of this man; homophobia internalized so strongly from the world he grew up in, yet compelled to seek out anonymous sex because he IS a gay man, and deep down, he knows there is no wishing that away.

He must really hate himself.
And then to have it become a national news story that will not go away.

I feel guilty for being able to sympathize, but not able to empathize, with him.

Barney Frank, if you haven't yet, give the Senator a call. Tell him how you do it.
