Default End of road for Starbucks laptop loungers?

Gee before I got rid of my lap top I would go to a few places like this except most days they weren't that busy.

Now with un-employment so high and the changing times these places might become a short stop.

End of road for Starbucks laptop loungers?

If you haven’t done it yourself, you’ll have seen others at it. Starbucks (or any coffee shop with free Wi-Fi, for that matter) is a magnet for laptop owners who love coffee and the Internet in equal amounts….or perhaps the Internet a bit more than coffee.

Those that have time on their hands might spend all afternoon in their seat, surfing the web, checking emails, and downloading songs, the long-ago bought bean-based beverage slowly metamorphosing from hot coffee to iced coffee.

Well, if a practice reportedly operating in some of Starbucks’ New York stores becomes more widespread, it could spell the end for the so-called laptop lounger.

According to Cnet (via Gawker), several stores in the city have started covering their AC outlets with solid plates in the hope that the lounger will drink up and leave, thereby allowing another person (with a laptop?) to take their place and spend some money.

That is funny. I would think the absolute suckiness of their coffee would drive people away.

Notebooks are starting to put in solid-state drives and the battery life is pushing 4 hours, so I don't know how that would make a difference in a few years once people upgrade.

Dillion's has bought it's franchise from Starbuck and once in a while I buy a small cappuccino from it.

It isn't that bad, but sense I make 4 cups of flavored coffee and put it in a thermos I don't do it often.

And the lap top I had, the instructions etc., said the battery would last up to 4 hours.
Yet if I got past 2 hours I was lucky. As it should have been with an HP built in 2007. With XP as the OS.

I with help from saltwn donated it to a small library up north. I am sure they use it with the power plug in.

For me it was becoming a headache to keep updating and I am sure they could use it more than I.

Their coffee sucks and most ones I've been in you have to purchase a wifi card or some rigmarole that I won't go through if I can go down the street and get it completely free.
Someone will take up the slack trust me.

Yes this is a call out to some small business or one smart person to start one up to fill the slack.

I think sense in many places Starbucks has customes who were in it for that one reason.

I think they will find this was a business mistake in the end. Time will tell.

Yes laptop manufacturers are notorious for lying about battery life.

It's not the OS or how often you connect to the internet, it is whether or not you have a physical hard-drive. The needle on the record is what sucks the battery.

Once you go flash SSD, the life of the laptop off-cord really, really improves.

Oh, and I only drink coffee from Nov-March since it is so hot here. But in any case I get a tin of Don Francisco's Vanilla nut. Best coffee ever and It costs like 3.99 for a months worth.

rjaz, I gave up on lap tops. But coffee no way.

I read where about 4 cups a day is healthy for men and keeps some safe from colon cancer... What ever as a smoker anything that helps (besides stopping) is okey with me.
And yes I know I should stop but can't seem to for longer than a week or so. But I have cut back a lot.

I stopped buying the brand I like the most as I have watched it rise from $6.99 to $10.99 last week. Sense January of this year.

I am not sure our store carrys that brand of coffee and if it did it would cost more here I am sure.

Gee I almost went to the large can my mon use to buy so long ago.

But I found another flavored at $6.58, I used it yesterday and it was almost as good as the one I use to use.
I bet if I play with the amount I put in the coffee maker it will get better, at least I hope as it is smooth and has a good taste.
