Feds sting Amish farmer selling raw milk locally - Washington Times
Quote:
A yearlong sting operation, including aliases, a 5 a.m. surprise inspection and surreptitious purchases from an Amish farm in Pennsylvania, culminated in the federal government announcing this week that it has gone to court to stop Rainbow Acres Farm from selling its contraband to willing customers in the Washington area.

The product in question: unpasteurized milk.

Personally I like my pasteurized skim milk bought at the gorcery store but I see no reason why a person can't buy raw milk if they so desire.
& then for Maryland to go to the point of outlawing "cow-sharing" to prevent folks from getting raw milk just seems overkill.
glad we got people working on catching these criminals...we got bin laden...now it's on to those pesky Amish farmers

See? Our govt HAS become our enemy. We ceded authority long ago, but the Constitution gives up the means and instruction to get it back.

Are YOU complicit in the debt? No, you are not.
Are YOU the reason for our diminishing liberties? Of course not.

Look, folks, get up, exercise you power any way you can (not violence) and get your country back from the vampires in DC. WE must be more vocal and demand our leaders stick to the Constitution and fiscal responsibility. That means less spending, NOT raising our taxes again, and again, and again.

Same goes for the state and local level.

Dear ****ing lord.

All the issues in this country and they waste time and money on ****ing milk?!

If I could get raw milk, I would. I currently get mine non-homogenized, though.

Hmm.... actually, I did just find a dairy farm that I CAN get raw milk from in this area. I just have to buy a "share" of the cow I get my milk from. According to VA law, it's illegal to sell raw milk from your cow to someone else. But not illegal to drink raw milk from your own cow. So, this dairy farm sells you a share of a cow, charges you a small fee to board and feed it, then you get a gallon of milk from it each week. Since it's your cow, it's legal.

LOL

****ing dumbass FDA. God I hate them.

That's odd. Here in California where they have a law about EVERYTHING, you can get raw milk from the co-ops.

Whether you are a Kroger's Chain or an Amish roadside stand, you are not allowed to sell dangerous food products to the public. Unpasteurized milk is one of those products. The feds are saving those people from possible law suits.

Quote:
Milk and milk products provide a wealth of nutrition benefits. But raw milk can harbor dangerous microorganisms that can pose serious health risks to you and your family. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 800 people in the United States have gotten sick from drinking raw milk or eating cheese made from raw milk since 1998.

Raw milk is milk from cows, sheep, or goats that has not been pasteurized to kill harmful bacteria. This raw, unpasteurized milk can carry dangerous bacteria such as Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria, which are responsible for causing numerous foodborne illnesses.

These harmful bacteria can seriously affect the health of anyone who drinks raw milk, or eats foods made from raw milk. However, the bacteria in raw milk can be especially dangerous to pregnant women, children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.

Give them time. They'll find a way to mess with that too.

Bull****. I grew up drinking milk that was still warm from the body heat having milked the cow myself.

What is dangerous is when we don't eat foods in their natural forms and we lose tolerance that we would have otherwise had.

There are increased risks of food born pathogens with raw milk like e-coli. But as long as it is correctly labeled and handled I have no problem with people selling it and or drinking it.
