Inmate Shot And Killed During Escape Attempt
SMITHFIELD, N.C. -- An inmate who tried to escape from the Johnston Correctional Institution around noon Tuesday was shot and killed by a guard after ignoring several commands to stop, North Carolina Corrections officials said.
Inmate Adeline Najer, who was serving a 10-year sentence for a second-degree murder in Stokes County, had scaled two fences surrounding a building next to the prison when he was shot.
The SBI is on the scene conducting an investigation.
