Lawyers targeting Missouri executioners

Quote:
ST. LOUIS, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Lawyers representing five death row inmates in Missouri have demanded the names of the state's executioners for a legal motion.

The St. Louis (Mo.) Post-Dispatch said Sunday that after its investigation found that a Missouri executioner was a convicted stalker, the team of lawyers questioned the executioners' suitability.

The Post-Dispatch previously had reported that licensed nurse David L. Pinkley, who has a stalking conviction on his record, had worked with the team that executed Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh.

While Missouri state law protects the identities of executioners, the defense attorneys argue their need for information supersedes the law.

The legal battle comes as the death penalty is the focus of an ongoing U.S. Supreme Court case revolving around the use of lethal injection in Kentucky. Lawyers in that case have argued the method constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.
Why do defense attorneys NEED this information?...

And more importntly, why on earth would someone convicted to DEATH be checking out the people performing the procedure as if THEY get to decide the morality or justification?!?...

The question should be...Were the executioners the ones that were in court and handing out the verdict.

If the executioner wasn't the judge, part of the jury, or part of the prosecution team trying the case? Then really doesn't have a thing to do with the execution of the verdict itself.

Guess they figure if they can hold it up in court, that much longer the convicted has to get out of the death penalty period. Guess they didn't stop to think that even IF one of the executioners were 'unfit/unqualified' that the state can and would find one that was fit/qaulified?

Harassment by filing frivolous lawsuits against the executioners or have scumbag sympathizers protest at the houses of the executioners or this lawsuit is just another attempt by the scumbag sympathizer crowd to further drive up the cost of executions.

That's the angle I'm looking at...
