Nextel dropped the NASCAR sponsorship last year and I wonder if that was something that killed their user base as well... It was teh NASCAR Nextel Cup, now it is just the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

Sprint and Nextel merged. Made a lot of Nextel customers mad.

I'm sure it did. I do wonder if Verizon would ever gobble up any one of the smaller cellphone companies, like Sprint. I hear even Disney has their own network, but I doubt if it is going to survive very long.

There is also AT&T Cellular, US Cellular, etc.

Sprint had bought up most of the towers, from what I understand, and the other companies had to pay for usage.
Sprint execs had to mess up really bad to be having money problems. I hope the government doesn't bail them out!
