Yes, but the thing is - they WEREN'T extrem. That rather puts lie to the claim that the Democrats moved to far to the left for them. They did not lose their seats because of the Democratic Party but because they only held those seats by virtue of being conservative Democrats and when the tide turned against the Dems this time around, those seats were easy pickings for the Republicans.
