It's a combination of pride and shame. He presents himself as someone other than who he really is and he's ashamed of that behavior. He has too much pride to just say, "Oh so what," which seems to be the attitude you'd like to see.

The picture was laughable and pathetic. Answering an ad on Craig's list seems rather desperate to me. As for the lying some folks know it's wrong and feel shame when caught as opposed to others who suggest everyone else does it why can't I. He probably doesn't want to be the representative who is a recognized liar. He'd rather go away and perhaps get his personal life in order since his public reputation is now damaged. As for his job I think anyone who holds a public office deals in public trust. There are many folks who would adhere to the guidelines that if your own family can't trust you then you have no right holding a job where the public at large is supposed to trust you. I find that to be a reasonable connection. Not all people lie to the degree that they are actually someone other than who they pass themselves off as. So to say, "everyone does it," is ridiculous. To suggest someone ought not to feel shame or have pride or recognize they have some damage control to do in order to get back to a place they can respect themselves before asking the public to respect them is odd. His actions are more admirable in my opinion then someone who declares, "Oh so what!" in response to impropriety.

I'd have much more respect for him if he told people it was none of their goddamn business. So sick of people ripping people apart for things that have not a goddamn thing to do with the jobs that they hold. It's retarded. It's a waste of time. It's a waste of money. It's a waste of bandwidth. People need to mind their own ****ing business and the sooner politicians tell them to do so, the better.
