EVERYTHING Brian Aitken was or had worked for was wiped away one winter afternoon after his mother called the police on him.

Separated from his wife, the entrepreneur and media consultant, now 27, had moved back home to New Jersey from Colorado toward the end of 2008 to be closer to their young son.

In between jobs, his well-oiled life was running ragged, and on Jan. 2, 2009, when his ex canceled his visit with their son, he became distraught, muttered something to his mother, and left his parents' home in Mount Laurel, N.J.

"He said something that scared her, things that a guy will only say to his mom, like . . . 'Life's not worth living anymore,' " said Larry Aitken, Brian's father.

Put a crappy defense attorney together with an overzealous judge and this is the kind of injustice you get.

That's pretty shocking. I know people who have done much worse (in NJ too, hah) and didn't serve a second. Was his lawyer the worst? He can probably appeal that, yeah? It seems beyond excessive.

Also, he's really good looking. Good looking people should have different laws applied to them, we need them in the world

Well part of the factor in this case would be the district attorney. Why was there a need to prosecute this case? I'm sure that we don't have ALL of the facts, but hollowpoints aren't just for a walk in the park...

Nappen is supposedly not a crappy attorney. He is considered the foremost authority on gun laws in the Peoples Republic of NJ. He is also very high priced. Based on the fact that he didn't get this guy off makes me wonder if he is as good as his reputation.
