Women Who Have One or Two Drinks a Day are Healthier in Old Age - WSJ.com

Quote:
Women who have an alcoholic drink or two a day in midlife turn out to be healthier overall in their old age, a new study found.

Previous research has pointed to health benefits for men and women with regular alcohol use, including lower risk of heart problems. But because of concerns about excess drinking, the American Heart Association and other groups recommend women don't exceed one drink per day. The guideline for men is two drinks. The group also doesn't recommend that non-drinkers start drinking.

The new research, presented Monday at the American Heart Association's annual meeting in Chicago, suggests women might not have to limit themselves to the one-drink-a-day guideline. A drink is defined as a 12-ounce beer, one ounce of hard alcohol, or five ounces of wine, which is often less than the typical serving in a wine goblet.

Another study presented at the conference showed that women who had a daily drink had a lower risk of stroke.
Alcohol should be sold in the health food/drink section.
Or maybe I can call liquor stores "health stores".

I can tell you why this is the case. If they don't have a drink or two a day, they will go insane during menopause.
The stress of insanity could likely lessen a lifespan.

I saw a similar study not too long ago that said people who have 2-3 drinks per day live the longest. Even heavy drinkers out live those who don't drink at all. Excuse me while I go pour myself a tall one.

Saw that one too. I think they said it's because drinkers are more social than non-drinkers? Something like that, I would have to find it again.
Anyway, bottoms up! Red wine is supposed to be good for you because of the anti-oxidants. Some claim red wine helps explain "the French paradox".

I thought "the French paradox" is the fact that France has made many advancements in military technology but all they ever do is surrender...

Hah, non! It's their somewhat low incidence of heart disease even though they have high fat diets.

Maybe they have low incidence of heart disease because they never have their hearts beating fast enough during anxiety because they're always surrendering instead of fighting?...

They also don't have the obesity problem we have. The French diet is to eat whatever you want, just in small portions. It's not the food that kills you, it's the amount. But perhaps that antioxident thing helps to. Now if they could figure out a way to get that into my Bud I could live forever.
