Default Man Hit By Sneaky Train

Quote:
Cops said Rokos was waiting inside the 14th Street station at Seventh Avenue for a No. 2 train Saturday afternoon when he leaned over to peer down the tunnel.
Suddenly, the northbound train barreled into the station, striking Rokos in the head. The impact sent him flying into the platform, where straphangers found him lying on his side.

The 57-year-old writer and actor, who lives with his wife on the Upper West Side, was semi-conscious and alert when cops arrived, officials said.

Cops said the motorman driving the train saw Rokos but couldn't stop in time. Officials said the driver slammed on the brakes, but the train's first five cars still pulled into the station.

Witnesses said Rokos tried to push himself up after being struck, but passengers tried to keep him still.

Rokos is best known for writing the searing 2002 racial drama for which Berry won an Academy Award as Best Actress -- the first ever won by an African-American.

A lot here doesn't make sense.
How do you not hear the train? Was he distracted by something? Was he on drugs?
Most confusing of all...why is a big shot taking the subway?

"sneaky" train? I've never met one of those, even from a distance.

Exactly. You can generally hear trains coming, maybe he was wearing headphones?
In other news, stupidity hasn't been cured yet

I think we should collectively send the man flowers from PW, perhaps he can write a screen play about us.

I find it amazing that he didn't lose his head over the whole thing. It seems the impact would have ripped it off his shoulders.

If he is such a big shot whoop ti do, why wasn't he riding in a cab like the rest of them do? Very strange indeed....

Just being a screenplay writer doesn't make one a "big shot." Besides, I think we would all do well not to assume that just because someone is moderately famous or well-to-do that they have a driver, drive themselves, take a cab, or engage in some other form of private transportation or that it would be "odd" for them to take public transportation. Limited success with screenplay writing, doesn't make one wealthy necessarily. Not all wealthy or famous people live in the ivory towers some would expect them to.

My wife used to wait on Stephen King when he came through the drive thru at Burger King. This was long after his net worth was in the hundreds of millions and he had written over a hundred books and short stories and inspired more than a dozen movies.
