That's true- but I just think it's a shame that we aren't instilling any sense of personal empowerment in our children in many cases. It's almost as if the victim mentality is so entrenched in our society, that no one thinks it's abnormal. This disturbs me.

Kids are told to not fight back when bullied.
That's the loss of personal empowerment.

In Jr High, I was small, the bullies tried to bully me and I fought back.
I got beat up.
Once.
They learned that I fight back and left me alone.

The same thing happened again in High School.
Once.

When I was raising children, I taught them to always defend themselves, but never to throw the first punch.

I was told to never throw the first punch, but learned that when outnumbered (by bullies) throwing the first punch has some distinct advantages.

If your mom is a small Texas blonde with the attitude of a lioness, yes.

I wish my mom had taught me to fight back. I was the product of pacifist parents who had to learn my way after reaching adulthood.

Here's a thought, when the bullies were laughing at the girl in her casket, the father should have grabbed one of them, broken his/her neck and dragged the body out to the curb where the trash is usually picked up, then casually returned to the funeral as if he'd merely used the restroom or something. The remaining bullies would at least think twice about bullying someone else in the future.

I can relate to this, I joined multiple racing car forums and got flamed from the get go, Being it was my first forum experience I tried to defend myself not realizing that only makes it worse. Needless to say they fried my hard drive, found pictures of me as a very fat child in high school and made posters out of it, and then put it everywhere online. They also called my job and tried to get me fired as well, knowing I have a 5 year old child to support. This was over a year ago and they STILL talk about me to this day. In fact, they have some of my threads sticky'ed. LOL

Many of them have NO morals or manners to speak of and sadly a vast majority are young military At least on the Auto forums....

When I was in high school, there was a guy who used to beat the crap out of me several times a week. My parents told me to stand up to him. I tried that once even though he had a 75 lb and 4 inch advantage over me and just got beat up more. The school wouldn't do anything and neither would the cops.

It took almost 25 years, but I finally got some measure of revenge. His house was foreclosed on and I got to do the paperwork that had him evicted. I made sure he knew it too. The best revenge is served cold.
