Stimulus spending comes from tax revenue and any time you run money through the gov't it produces far less economic gain than leaving it in the hands of free enterprise.

The excesses of the current admin, FAR outstrip those of the previous one. Keep in mind that TARP was a LOAN program (which is being repaid), while the Big Bailout was simply handing over large sums of money. While I hated TARP then and I hate it now, it's still FAR better than what the current Congress/President did.
Actually, the stimulus is recouped. It directly creates tax revenue. So we aren't out on either. But all the spending without taxing during the Bush years has murdered the economy. You have to pay for what you order.

In addition, Clinton left Bush with a surplus so yes... Factually it's Bush. I could care less who we blame as long as it is factually accurate. You can't blame the doctor who lances a boil for causing pain, blame the doctor who allowed the boil to fester.

Perhaps you will consider voting for Obama so your state can keep its education department.

It's sucking $10 out of the economy to get $3. Explain to me how that's supposed to help.

BTW - If "flow" is so important, why not leave the money in the economy in the first place?? Wouldn't the flow be faster if teh gov't wasn't bottlenecking it?? Also, free enterprise lives on your idea of flowing money and they make decisions based on what will flow the money the most profitably, the gov't has NO motivation to do so, so why put the gov't in charge of the money?? Why not leave it in the hands of teh people who have the most motivation for creating the most flow and thus profit??

But when there is an investment freeze (thank your capitalist banking institutions for that one), there is no factor other than government that can move that sort of money through the system, in essence priming the pump.

It's not sucking 10 to get 3, it's sucking 10 to get 9.5. And yeah, the .5 is too much, but its better than the alternative.

When the people aren't willing to spend or invest, the economy dies. Obama didn't have a choice but to create an environment where investors were willing to start investing again.

That giant sucking sound is obama sucking the life out of this country!

Good Post.. Yet just before I clicked this I was checking the Daily Presidental Tracking Poll, at Rasmussen Reports.

And some of it differs with this report.

Quote:
Thursday, July 08, 2010 The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 26% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-three percent (43%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -17 (see trends).

Fifty-three percent (53%) of Democrats Strongly Approve while 74% of Republicans Strongly Disapprove. Among those not affiliated with either major party, 16% Strongly Approve and 51% Strongly Disapprove.

Overall, 36% say that the president is doing a good or an excellent job when it comes to the economy. Fifty percent (50%) give him poor marks in this area. It’s the first time his poor rating has hit the 50% mark.

On national security issues, 39% give the president good or excellent marks while 40% say poor.

Most Americans are not willing to pay higher taxes to prevent layoffs of government employees. Most are also unwilling to pay higher taxes to maintain entitlement programs for low-income Americans, to provide more money for education, or to put more police and firefighters on the payroll. Fifty-two percent (52%) believe higher taxes are bad for the economy.

The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update). Updates are also available on Twitter and Facebook.

Overall, 45% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the president's performance. Fifty-four percent (54%) disapprove. Those figures include Approval from 80% of Democrats and Disapproval from 86% of Republicans. Among those not affiliated with either major party, 36% Approve and 63% Disapprove.

So which is correct?

When asked if you'd like to pay higher taxes for any reason, what would be your answer?
There's your answer.
I didn't even vote for new funds for the fire department. First time ever on an issue like that for me. If libraries had been on the ballot (a favorite project of mine) I would have voted that down too.
The fire department got its money though. My vote was in the minority.
I happen to know we have a fine department that is financed as is. The new bond would add additional schooling (pay a teacher) when at present they volunteered. I didn't think it was a good time to add a paid position.
