Niece says Byrd told her he was dyslexic - Yahoo! News

snip,
Quote:
As Sen. Robert C. Byrd was being laid to rest after a week of memorials, a niece eulogized him Tuesday as a person who suffered from dyslexia.
I guess that explains his reason for being a member of the KKK.
(He obviously got the letters mixed up)

He was 24 when he belonged to the KKK...he quit after a few years...what ever his thougts were then, he clearly, over time changed and his record of actions reflect that.

Interesting though....if he was dyslexic. He was largely self-educated, as he had to go to work at an early age. I heard he got his law degree at the age of 70...he was someone who recognized his early views were wrong, and sought to change them.

More power to him. He did a lot of good to WV...and that is what a politician is supposed to do.

How many - now that Kennedy, Helms and others are gone...can say the same?

Seems all they care about now is fund raising and re-election.

So Byrd gets a pass? How about that? Well if he was only a Cyclops for a little while and only recruited a few other racist, I guess we can let a little hatred slide.

Clinton should get a pass for his indiscretions and perjury as well because he has seen the error of his ways as well, while we are in such a forgiving mood.

BTW, the money that poor excuse of a Senator spent on his state to get re-elected, came from other states that weren't as poor because they developed infrastructure to produce finished goods instead of exploiting poor dumb labor.

Well golly gee whiz. He was 24 when he joined, and he quit a few years later. Since he has a substantial record - actions, not just words - indicating he regretted that stance, and changed his views over the years - well, ya...I will give him a pass.

People change and they deserve to be recognized for it, not by the wrong actions of their youth.

That's a whole 'nother topic - we're talking about Byrd here right?

But if you are going to dip into the past, well, think about how you elected a drunken cokehead frat boy president not once but twice. (I'm assuming you are incapable of acknowledging that people can change).

He did what he was supposed to do as an elected official - take care of West Virginia.

WV was primarily exploited by outsiders. Nice try though.

We agree on something.

When I was 24 I had different opinions, etc, than I have today now that I'm on my 40's. We grow up. We change. It's life.
