I understand you'r analogy, but still Great Britain is our close ally, and Argentina is not.
So what? Doesn't mean that America should just blindly side with the British in all matters. I'd rather a friend that told me when I did wrong than a friend who went along with whatever I did, right or wrong.

To show solidarity the President has sent a box of CD's of his favorite gangster rap albums, only it was sent through the US postal service so it hasn't arrived yet.

A few thoughts on the matter....

1. The U.S. maintained the appearance of neutrality during the run-up to the Falkland Islands war, and only supported Britain openly when bullets started flying.

2. Bullets aren't flying in the present dispute (yet).

3. Diplomacy is far more complicated than the simplistic situation provided by the media - there's no question that the U.S. and the U.K. have had long talks about how to proceed in the present situation, and together have choreographed everything up to this point - the U.K. understands and approves of our need to not piss off another country unnecessarily.

4. I'm rootin' for the Brits.

All we had to do was pick one and support their actions, maybe in the back channels give them a bit of advice. What did we do? Nothing. The great plan of those that are too smart.

We have missed opportunities like this in the past that have cost us dearly in the future.

BTW though the Argintinians speak Castilian they are as white as most Europians as they were settled by Europians.
Opportunities? Opportunities... You act as if there is a correct answer... that's the whole everloving point... there isn't a correct answer.

And Argentinians are just as "white" as Mexicans as Mexico was settled by Europeans, but we don't consider Mexicans to be traditionally "white" now we do we... We call them hispanic or latino or something other than white.

Well when the shoe fits, perhaps people will realize their ethnocentric tendencies. Our culture is based predominately off of British culture. We support them not because they are correct, but because they are most like us. By Obama actually using FACTS instead of ethnocentric emotion/dedication, he's made the "right" decision instead of the popular decision. He recognizes that there is a legitimate dispute between Britain and Argentina and there has been since long before any of us were born.

You are correct in that there are no right answers in diplomacy. That however does not excuse inaction, there are better answers. Vietnam, Cuba, Afganistan, Bosnia/Serbia are all examples of initial in action that became big expensive problems later. Not to mention the mess that Africa is because of out lack of leadership.
