There was a study on Colbert viewers a while back.
The "left" viewers were able to pick up on his satire in larger percentages than the "right" vewers were...
What is so funny, is that a lot on the right, think Colbert is serious!

Some students at Ohio State University found that Colbert Satire was lost on a significant number of conservatives...

Quote:
This study investigated biased message processing of political satire in The Colbert Report and the influence of political ideology on perceptions of Stephen Colbert. Results indicate that political ideology influences biased processing of ambiguous political messages and source in late-night comedy. Using data from an experiment (N = 332), we found that individual-level political ideology significantly predicted perceptions of Colbert's political ideology. Additionally, there was no significant difference between the groups in thinking Colbert was funny, but conservatives were more likely to report that Colbert only pretends to be joking and genuinely meant what he said while liberals were more likely to report that Colbert used satire and was not serious when offering political statements. Conservatism also significantly predicted perceptions that Colbert disliked liberalism. Finally, a post hoc analysis revealed that perceptions of Colbert's political opinions fully mediated the relationship between political ideology and individual-level opinion.

I do not have cable TV so I can not watch people like Glenn Beck. Therefore, I watch a lot of public television. The only time I have seen him is on YouTube videos. I am not threatened by people like him. However, I find it very disturbing that so many people are echoing the same kind of paranoid and even somewhat delusional comments lately since this president took office. Therefore, I am thinking they are probably watching certain people like Beck and swallowing the propaganda (hook, line, and sinker) without actually thinking for themselves. That is what I find so disturbing.

These people who bitch about Obama being a socialist, a non-citizen, a nazi, remind me of little pissed off 3 year olds who couldn't get their way, so they're taking their ball and going home. It took me over a year before I decided Bush was FOS. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, then when I saw enough evidence to indicate otherwise, I drew my conclusion.

And they got about the same logic as pre-teens.

"You called Bush a nazi so we can call Obama a nazi."

That's grade school ****!

And to be quite honest, I never said Bush was a nazi, I said his actions are similar. The nazi's used the Riechstad fire and made up a lie to invade Poland, Bush did the same thing with 9/11 and Iraq. Both are wars of aggression.

And there probably wouldn't have been a 9/11 if American's didn't have this notion that we walk on water and can do no wrong.

Here is a YouTube video that explains very clearly why I am so concerned about some of these comments and actions that I have been hearing lately from the far right-wing (fringe) conservatives, especially in my state. It almost appears as if some of them are truly delusional. For a Republican congressman to suggest to a mostly conservative crowd, they need to stop listening to Glenn Beck. Well, that really says a great deal. The man has some guts.

It's the result of processes called "learning," "maturing," "growing up" and "acquiring experience."

Most people eventually have to accept certain realities, in order to become adults.

The recent election of incompetents positing covetous, self-serving fantasies as government policies and legislation has simply accelerated the process for all but the most reticent.

You see?

Nothing is more self-serving than the man who believed in a "unitary executive" and proceeded to write Presidential directives and push through legislation to make that a reality.

And although the current administration is adopting the policies of the former, this is certainly not new ground we are covering.

Here's another little "Beck" gem...
Quote:
Remember Glenn Beck's mysteeerious video of Obama's Secret Negro Army?™ It's pretty much the foundation of his entire conspiracy theory on the impending takeover of the country by armed Obama thugs, and serves today as the linchpin of the "Obama indoctrination" nontroversy. If you haven't seen it, it's about 1:10 into this clip:
See web-site for clip
"Stop, stop, stop!" Glenn Beck cries -- as the Secret Negro Army™ declares its intentions to become doctors and lawyers. (Shudder!)

Beck acts like it's a mystery who these "dangerous" black children are. "They've sealed this as tight as a drum," he says with his characteristic nervous urgency. The subtext is clear: be afraid! Be very afraid of this mysterious video!

Well, mystery solved. Thanks to one of my commenters at Osborne Ink, Obama's Secret Negro Army™ has been positively identified...as high school step dancers. You know, like these guys:

YouTube - RE: So-called Obama "militant" youth group

Quote:
A typical step show on college campuses throughout the country. The young kids from the "Obama Junior Fraternity" are emulating a historically black fraternity that is found on college campuses throughout the nation. Their teacher was probably a member.

Young men in this fraternity DO go on to become teachers, doctors, lawyers, architects and engineers. Not a bad way to achieve these goals..

These kids want to go to college so they can be like the men in this video who are in college and are pursueing their dreams.

Other members of this fraternity include Bill Cosby, Jesse Jackson, Langston Hughes, Count Basie and Michael Jordan.
Matt Osborne: Glenn Beck's Two Week Video Mystery Solved (UPDATE)

The way Beck "connects" the dots, he belongs in the "Conspiracy" thread...

No, what I see is racism. And an effort to pretend its something else. I have learned that people who follow Glenn Beck are frightened right wing fanatics who wrap themselves in a cloak of phony patriotism. They see a boogie man in the POTUS. They have done all they can to make you think he is not one of "US". Even to the point of questioning his citizenship. Then they tell a bunch of old white folks he wants to pull the plug on grandma. Its complete lunacy. Its worse then McCarthyism because it is based on race.
