Court Rules ‘No Reasonable Viewers’ Should Take Rachel Maddow Seriously link

Journalist Glenn Greenwald broke it down for us on his Substack, and he even cites the courts decision as ironical and amusing determination LOL!

“In concluding that Maddow’s statement would be understood even by her own viewers as non-factual, the judge emphasized that what Maddow does in general is not present news but rather hyperbole and exploitation of actual news to serve her liberal activism,” Greenwald commented, before citing the judge:
On one hand, a viewer who watches news channels tunes in for facts and the goings-on of the world. MSNBC indeed produces news, but this point must be juxtaposed with the fact that Maddow made the allegedly defamatory statement on her own talk show news segment where she is invited and encouraged to share her opinions with her viewers. Maddow does not keep her political views a secret, and therefore, audiences could expect her to use subjective language that comports with her political opinions.
Thus, Maddow’s show is different than a typical news segment where anchors inform viewers about the daily news. The point of Maddow’s show is for her to provide the news but also to offer her opinions as to that news. Therefore, the Court finds that the medium of the alleged defamatory statement makes it more likely that a reasonable viewer would not conclude that the contested statement implies an assertion of objective fact.

It gets worse for the MSNBC host regarding the hyperbole and invective she invoked to describe a certain cable news network.
“The judge’s observations about the specific segment at issue — in which Maddow accused a competitor of being ‘literally paid Russian propaganda’ — was even more damning. Maddow’s own viewers, ruled the court, not only expect but desire that she will not provide the news in factual form but will exaggerate and even distort reality in order to shape her opinion-driven analysis,” Greenwald comments before again turning to the court:
Viewers expect her to do so, as it is indeed her show, and viewers watch the segment with the understanding that it will contain Maddow’s “personal and subjective views” about the news. See id. Thus, the Court finds that as a part of the totality of the circumstances, the broad context weighs in favor of a finding that the alleged defamatory statement is Maddow’s opinion and exaggeration of the Daily Beast article, and that reasonable viewers would not take the statement as factual…

I disagree heavily..."IF" her viewers EXPECT that Maddow will not provide the news in factual form but will exaggerate and even distort reality in order to shape her opinion-driven analysis , then why do her viewers REPEAT this "exaggerated, distorted reality, not-news-in-factual-form"???...They want us to believe that Maddow says, "Here are your lies to spread for today." and her viewers say, "Yes ma'am!!!!"...

Sorry...I believe Maddow's viewers blindly believe her "exaggerated, distorted reality, not-news-in-factual-form" hook, line, and sinker...

but I think she cried wolf so much with so many "BOMBSHELL" reports about Trump that turned out to be duds that plenty of them got the picture after a while... even though they WANTED to to believe the worse.

They probably just think there is some massive coverup instead of those stories being duds. Because liberal loons still parrot the Russian collusion hoax and anything else she spews. Of course think the keywords in the title are ‘No Reasonable Viewers’ Should Take Rachel Maddow Seriously. I don't think she has any of those. Her viewers are like Alex Jone's viewers.Nut jobs who eat up every word they say about the opposition.

I've listened to Alex Jones, i don't buy everything he says,
During the W Bush years I listened to Rachel Maddow and she made a LOT of good points.
And When Obama became Prez she even managed to honestly and factually criticize him for his hypocrisy and BSery from time to time.
But when Trump took over she... like many others... went off the deep end.
Earlier today I watched a piece by Tucker Carlson on fox. For the past few years I've agreed with ...or at least thought he was presenting factual info... about 75% of the time. today wasn't one of those days.

I don't know the percentage of viewers who simply swallow whole everything any "news source" presents.
Hopefully it's not over 50%.
But at this point Rachel Maddow, Alex Jones & Tucker Carlson have all been to court and used the "I'm not really News" defense.
Add to that the fact that CNBC, CNN and FOX and all the networks have all been caught lying about various things. (Alex Jones often has important info that the MSM does not address but he's simply a hyperbolic mess to often.)
It'd be wonderful to simply be able to listen to "the news" and not have analyze every presentation to see if the facts are there or not, but sadly that's where we are.

Reasonable viewers don't watch Maddow, and those who watch her aren't reasonable.
