Default MSNBC’s Brian Williams: ‘Our job’ is to ‘scare people to death’ over North Korea

Remember when the networks' job was to just report the news as is?

MSNBC?s Brian Williams: ?Our job? is to ?scare people to death? over North Korea – TheBlaze

MSNBC’s Brian Williams said Tuesday evening that it is the media’s job to “scare people to death” about the possible ramifications of rising tensions with North Korea.

Last week, in response to North Korean tests of intercontinental ballistic missiles, the United Nations implemented sanctions against the country. North Korea vowed Monday to unleash “thousands-fold” revenge against the United States for the sanctions.

Following reports that North Korea produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead that can fit inside its missiles, Trump said Tuesday the regime “best not make any more threats to the United States.”

“They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen,” he said.

After Trump’s remarks, North Korea President Kim Jong Un’s government threatened to strike waters near Guam, an American territory and home to Andersen Air Force Base. According to the New York Times, American strategic bombers would utilize the base “if war with North Korea were to break out.”

During a panel discussion about Trump’s rhetoric toward the Kim regime, Williams, host of “The 11th Hour,” asked MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell about the Trump administration’s response to North Korea.

“There’s pressure,” Mitchell said. “This could have been a signal to Beijing as well; ‘Listen up, take this seriously.’ It could have been President Trump sending signals in a number of directions.”

Mitchell noted that lawmakers such as Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) criticized the tone of Trump’s remarks about North Korea. She then explained the risks of a pre-emptive strike against North Korea, including the risk of harm to South Korea and its citizens, and Americans living there.

Williams turned to MSNBC contributor Malcolm Nance and said, “Malcolm, our job tonight actually is to scare people to death on this subject so the talk isn’t as free as it is about a pre-emptive or a surgical military strike.”

“You know that part of the world. The population centers, Andrea and the general [panelist Barry McCaffrey] have talked about, South Korea, the Japanese, and so on and so on,” Williams said.

Nance replied that a pre-emptive strike against North Korea “is not a viable option.”

The interviews covered a host of topics and the idea that the entire thing was a comment that in context is perfectly understandable.

I get sick of these Blaze stories that are designed for partisan consumption.

Most people are aware of the NK threat without Brian's extra help. They are also aware of how we got here. He probably agrees with Susan Rice that we should just accept a nuked up NK.

I'm not scared. David Wilcock refers to news like Brian Williams describes as fear porn, and I refuse to engage. The MSM today deliberately disseminates pieces to incite fear and rage. It no longer delivers news. For example, a waitress who is left a nasty, racist note instead of a tip, a worker at Dunkin Donuts who refuses to serve cops, etc. are incidents, not news, but they are splashed all over the media as if these small incidents matter, and the intent is to get people riled up. These isolated incidents are not news and don't deserve the light of day. Just ignore the MSM. It has become irrelevant.

I get it, and the headline has a serious case of quote mining; but you shouldn't just take a potshot at the messenger and then hit send. If you think a story is wrong say why you think it's wrong.

And in this case I agree with Brian Williams. The news should scare us about war because I think everyone ought to understand the gravity of going to war with North Korea; a nation with nuclear weapons, and possibly the means for delivery, with a madman at the helm.

Now when I say scare I don't mean some sort of blatant anti-war message, but they should be blunt and honest with us over what a conflict with them may look like. The media was saturated with pro-war voices in the months preceding the Iraq War and I do believe that pushed public opinion into supporting going into there.
