Most Voters Say News Media Wants Obama to Win

Quote:
Voters overwhelmingly believe that the media wants Barack Obama to win the presidential election. By a margin of 70%-9%, Americans say most journalists want to see Obama, not John McCain, win on Nov. 4. Another 8% say journalists don't favor either candidate, and 13% say they don't know which candidate most reporters support.

A separate study released Wednesday by the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism looks at the media’s recent campaign coverage and finds that McCain received significantly more negative than positive coverage between the GOP convention and the final debate. The study says that press treatment of Obama has been somewhat more positive than negative, but not markedly so. [See "Winning the Media Campaign" released October 22, 2008.]

In recent presidential campaigns, voters repeatedly have said they thought journalists favored the Democratic candidate over the Republican. But this year's margin is particularly wide. At this stage of the 2004 campaign, 50% of voters said most journalists wanted to see John Kerry win the election, while 22% said most journalists favored George Bush. In October 2000, 47% of voters said journalists wanted to see Al Gore win and 23% said most journalists wanted Bush to win. In 1996, 59% said journalists were pulling for Bill Clinton.

In the current campaign, Republicans, Democrats and independents all feel that the media wants to see Obama win the election. Republicans are almost unanimous in their opinion: 90% of GOP voters say most journalists are pulling for Obama. More than six-in-ten Democratic and independent voters (62% each) say the same.

Certainly, that won't be Fox News.

You my be right that the majority of the press is pro Obama. Does that mean that all the reporting is biased? I think it is on the extreme ends of the media. But I think everything worth reporting is covered pretty well. I think some on the right are frustrated that the old tactics aren't working. But they have been so obviously political games Rev. Wright. Bill Ayers etc. They are mad that those stories haven't sunk Obama. As I am concerned that the right really believes Palin is fit to be POTUS. I guess we just don't understand each other. But I wouldn't keep blaming the press. In fact McCain has been a media darling for years.

McCain has indeed been a media darling for years and has said as much. Sadly..like other relationships he has had...it's all gone sour...

What hasn't been reported? You are mad that people haven't been turned against Obama. Look lets get real. The press may lean towards Obama. But for the media they will choose controversy first for ratings. So if there was a juicy story they would be on it. There is no there threre.

Ditto that.
Palin hides in a closet, and Joe the Plumber does more interviews than she does.

I repeat, JOE THE PLUMBER...

McCain? He puts people to sleep!
Obama is exciting.
He goes places and does things that GENERATES NEWS.

I've asked you before WHAT McCain was doing during times that you thought Obama was getting more press. I don't recall you ever answering that.
Geez. MOST PEOPLE want Obama to win in this election.
It's no surprise that the news media is similar in their voting desires.

But that does not automatically translate to "bias".
How about I look at John Edwards coverage after he gave up the race?
Do you think that was negative???

Sometimes, the existence of negative coverage is just cause you got crap on you...

Not really...

There's been residual fallout on the credibility of the media for awhile now...

This may or may not be the last straw...
